Mile High Music Festival | All New Colorado Fest

milehighfest.jpg

Yet another new festival enters the arena. The first ever Mile High Festival will take place July 19th and 20th at the Fields at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado (9 miles outside of downtown Denver). Headliners include Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Steve Winwood, and The Black Crowes.

We've heard some rumblings of a new festival for the Denver Metro area, so I guess this is the one. And it's a lineup that should grab some national attention. I don't get the sense that these headliners will drive a ton of interest from the jam kids or the indie hipsters, but those folks might take a look at the rest of the lineup and dig what they see. It's an interesting strategy and might just pay off for a city-specific festival like this one.

Dear Chuck:

I found out tickets would be $85 per day or $150 for both days. OK...not too bad for the first ever concert like this in my home town.

I was than excited to learn that there is a $250 VIP ticket option and signed up to get presale tickets (which went on sale today) and was SHOCKED to find out that greed has once again reared its ugly head as the ticket is $250 per day! Per day???! Are you serious?? For what? A little closer parking and free cheap beer and better port-a-pottys??? WOW! Simply horrible!

I went to Woodstock '99 and I paid only $150 for 3-days of amazing music

I am ashamed at the greed shown already for this event - LAME

Is this an camp out event?

tyrone,

I'm going to guess it is not going to include camping, given the location just outside Denver. My sense is that this is an attempt to be a city-specific festival like lolla, sasquatch, etc..

I could certainly be wrong. unfortunately, there's still no info on this yet. If you find out something official, definitely drop back to LMB to let us know!

Thanks--mw

I was pretty excited when I first heard about a festival of this size to take place in Denver, but then I found out the price and the fact that there will not be any camping. Sorry to say it but the Wakarusa festival is cheaper and is only 8 hours away and has awesome camping, lake fun and a great line-up. It's disappointing that the organizers of this festival kindof missed the boat with that one.

So this is our Bonnaroo? Our Coachella? Too bad it's a bunch of lame KBCO crap. We get the beige and khaki variety of the New American Festival. Ironic seeing as how Denver was just getting some notice for interesting young bands.

Bring Jason Miller back to Denver and get Radiohead, Bjork, Ween and The Pixies and leave this Yuppie Yawnfest behind.

Life's too short. Don't be a sucker for crap.

The promoters were planning on having the festival in a City Park right near downtown, but the Denver zoo vetoed those plans, saying it would disrupt the animals. So they had to move the inferior soccer fields.

Still a great festival and lineup though.
