2007 Beale Street Music Festival | Memphis in May

bealestreet.jpgphoto by Scott the Hobo

The Beale Street Music Festival takes place in Memphis each Spring to kick off the month-long celebration of music known as "Memphis in May." The festival draws in sixty performers playing on four different stages and features a party-like atmosphere which has earned it the nickname of “The Mardi Gras of the Mid-South."

Judging by the line-up, the 2007 Beale Street Music Festival should be at least as fun as those of days past. This year they've line up performances by musicians as varied as Social Distortion and Jerry Lee Lewis, Godsmack and Steely Dan, and Umphrey’s McGee and Three 6 Mafia. And with the likes of the Allman Brothers, Derek Trucks Band, Gov't Mule, Taj Mahal, etc...they've got some big guitar talent, leaning heavilyy towards classic blues and Southern rock.

Hey y'all. while in Memphis for this fest, don't forget to visit all the shops and food stops on Beale Street. These people are just great folks and they're what has made the Beale Street Music Festival so special to me year after year. Also, you just can't beat the price for admission to this much talent!!

Ok...before posting "why aren't all of my favorite bands playing?" or "I like only a few bands but not all of them" consider this: Beale St. Music fest is a music festival NOT your playlist of over played pop rock on your ipod. So if you would like to see a few bands you like then come out and see them and maybe you will discover some new music for yourself while you are there.

For those of you that have attended in the past: If one wants to score a location near the stage for a particular act, how long in advance should they show up and begin heading that way?

Posted by: -E- | April 4, 2007 5:31 PM

sounds crucial over all but hippie dude up there needs ta stfu about that whole its not your playlist thing...i hate frickin hippies....hope u all burn alive in front of your parents and loved ones

Posted by: jessica Soles | April 8, 2007 3:03 PM

What about 30 Seconds To Mars?! I love that band!!

Posted by: lanie | April 15, 2007 1:59 PM

When do we find out the times each band is playing?

Posted by: Jill | April 22, 2007 5:19 PM

OMG!!! The line-up this year is great! Unfortunatley I am only going to be able to go sunday though. But the line-up is still awesome!!! DAUGHTRY, Counting Crows (AMAZING IN PERSON!!!), Papa Roach, John Legend... wow, couldn;t have picked a better day!! Looking forward to it!!

When will the times be posted? My gf and I are having a debate on who to go to if the Counting Crows and DAUGHTRY play at the same time. I want to see DAUGHTRY and she wants to see Counting Crows. But if we have to split and see them seperately we will... but hopefully they will play at different times. I dont think that this day and age that the Counting Crows are much of a Headlining band. I figure DAUGHTRY, Hinder, Papa Roach and John legend are all more suited to close the night. Since they're all more modern than the CC's. Anyways, I can't wait! See yall there!!!

Posted by: douglas roberts | April 25, 2007 11:50 PM

The times/stages usually are posted week of the event. Closest campsite would prob be in West Memphis, AR - only across the river.

Posted by: Helen Marie | April 28, 2007 8:42 AM

I went last year for my first time and its the best thing ever. When we got there we got a program of the times and line-up.

just make sure you bring plenty of good bud bcoz it makes the experince 10x's better.

Hey Mike,
Regarding campgrounds...I have found 2 within 20 mins of downtown. Tom Sawyer RV park across the river in West Memphis and TO Fuller State Park. This will be the first year I have camped for the event so I don;t know how quickly they fill up. We are getting there Friday morning so hopefully we will have a spot and we won't get rained on TOO much. See ya there!!!

Posted by: April West | April 29, 2007 9:03 PM

Times can be found here. hope this helps!! See you there!!! Look for the drunk guy with the cold beer!!! ... oh wait... there will be many of us!!!

I agree that we could pass on all the comments about why not this band, etc, but to each his own. I wish they didn't have the headliners all be last in the day at the same time. I'd like to see Godsmack & George Thorogood, but that's not an option the way it's set up. Still, for $25 you can't beat it. Party on!

Posted by: Craig | May 1, 2007 4:24 PM

this year will be great but im tore between two bands, sum 41 plays at 7:40 and chevelle plays at 8 both at seperate stages oh what to do?? email me with suggestions!any body got ne tips for first timers also email me.

Posted by: Josh | May 2, 2007 9:47 AM

Josh, dude comeon, both bands are really good, but i would go and see chevelle, there so awesome and i personally think that there better than sum41.

Posted by: Billy | May 3, 2007 12:25 PM

Hawthorne Heights plays at 4:00 Saturday. That sucks since I can't go. And the red jumpsuit apparatus sucks live. But they are cool.

Posted by: Ben | May 5, 2007 8:25 AM

I HAVE GONE TO MUSIC FEST MY WHOLE LIFE SINCE IT STARTED. WHAT HAPPENED TO ALL OF THE 70'S MUSIC. THE ALLMAN BROS ARE ALWAYS GREAT. WHAT HAPPENED TO CDB, AND ALL THE OTHERS. THE PRICES ARE TOO HIGH, WE USED TO PAY 15.00 FOR 3 DAYS. BUT SOMEHOW, IT ALWAYS IS MUDDY.

LATER

Man i feel sorry for everyone that complains about the lineup for MIM.I just got back and it was absolutley amazing. Derek Trucks Smoked all night long with his band and especially with the Allmans. The Allman Brotheres were by far the best show of the festival. You can't compare people like Red Jumpsuit Apparatus or Papa Roach to them. Thats just crazy.

Posted by: Anthony | May 6, 2007 10:03 PM

Apologies.....to anyone I cut in front of in line. I was not my intention to PISS anyone off by cutting in line....But if I did'nt get to bathroom asap I would have been PISSED on. Not many handi bathrooms around the area. Sorry about that....hope you all had a great time....peace.

Hey, did anyone possibly get a flash disc recording of the Barenaked Ladies show (they usually give them out at the end of their shows). Anyone have the tracklist they performed? If so, please email me. =)
