(update for full lineup on 4/11/07)
Chicago Sun-Times' Pop Music Critic, Jim Derogatis, is today reporting that Pearl Jam will headline this year's Lollapalooza, which is set for August 3rd - 5th in Grant Park:
The major headliner for year three of the retooled Lollapalooza concert will be none other than the band that became the breakout superstar of the old Lollapalooza back in 1992: Seattle's godfathers of grunge, Pearl Jam.
The three-day concert will take place in Grant Park from Aug. 3-5, and Lollapalooza promoters don't plan on announcing the 130-band lineup or putting tickets on sale for several weeks, until late March or early April. They declined to comment on any of the acts Wednesday.
Nevertheless, three concert industry sources confirmed that fans may expect Evanston native Eddie Vedder and his band to perform on Chicago's lakefront as part of a U.S. tour that will follow a European jaunt that has already been announced in June, and which includes several major music festivals.
Jim Derog is a pretty good source for this kind of info, and one hopes his "three concert industry sources" are not leading him astray. Either way, this is pretty big news!
More info as it comes.
Sidenote:
If you'd like to play a role in helping decide who will be at Lollapalooza 2007, go make a suggestion at "YourLolla." The site gives you a spot to drop your favorite band names as well as restaurants and favorite food items.
Um, that's great, but what about a suggestions for....BEER! Tha lack of beer selection was one of my main peevs with this festival (they could've at least offered some local Goose Island for flava!). Yeah, yeah, Budweiser paid a shitload of cash to have their name blazed across those stages. Then again, beer really IS food!
GOD BLESS EDDIE VEDDER!
GOD BLESS EDDIE VEDDER!
I saw pj at the gorge last summer. best show of my life. no way in hell will i miss this.
Still got the T shirt also red Hot Chilli Peppers on the same bill.
saw em at lollapaloza 92, kinda sucked then too
Hmmm.... I have never seen them. Does this mean there the last band to play at 07?
Ha, ok Ezra Agnewbie. If your talking about Pearl Jam in '92 then you have the wrong band.
Reply if needed.
anybody who says pearl jam sucks, has ever sucked, or might suck in the future is a complete idiot and brings a total void of necessity for anything they say to have attention paid to it. few bands of the nineties that are still active could be considered as solid and consistently capable to release good albums as pearl jam. not to mention the great energy and set lists they always pull together for live shows.
dear Ezra, i dunno how you can say that about seein pearl jam in 92..........you should be arrested and sent to alcatraz. PJ continues to blow the whole world away with their albums and live shows. The fact that a band like PJ survived the grunge years and are still steam rolling along is incredible and cannot be explained. Many Canadian PJ fans will be there at lollapalooza 2007 rockin out with PJ and the rest of the bands. the Spirit of Layne Staley will there as well lookin down on the crowd as well.
Pearl Jam/Alice in Chains for life.
Layne Staley.........forever.
I've never been to a Lollapalooza, but I've seen PJ many many times. Of course this is wonderful news and I will definitely attend Lolla this year! Is it incredibly hard to get tix to this? I wonder if tenclub will have seats?

Figures, I leave the Chicago area, and Eddie comes back to town...time to check on flights and tickets!
simply put. they don't even need to add another band. i'll drop $130 for pj faster than eddie can open his bottle of red for the homecoming show. the moron who posted the comment above about them sucking in 92 can stick it. he/she is probably a britney spears fan.
PJ IN CHICAGO!!! This is the best thing to happen this year, and I'm getting married soon. Can't wait till August now. Rhymefest is a really awesome guy too. Good music. ( If you like rap. )Local Chi-town guy who can flow like no other. I highly recommend checking him out while you are at Lolla. See you all there.
great to see p.j headline this festival..the band lineup so far taking away p.j is not that great though
Lolla last year was musically diverse and soincally awsome. The chillis and the flaming lips...were lolla vetrans. This is an exciting year in music, with re-unions and new albums. It should rock, i hope they can get the Pumpkins who i haven't seen since 94. But Pearl Jam, never disapoints, tenacious fans, a huge catlogue and a grownig respect with a longevity that none of the bands of its era share. I just wish the damn festival still toured! But i made the trek from Vancouver to chi-town last summer...it was well worth it!
Early-bird tickets for lollapalooza went on sale this morning, and Pearl Jam officially confirmed on their web site last night.
Got my tickets this morning! I don't even care who else will be there - I'd go just for Pearl Jam. This will be my 14th time, 8th venue, and 4th state in which I've seen them.
weak line up so far..... do hope lollapalooza delivers with the rest of the bands.
RADIOHEAD or lets see The Strokes and of course the pumpkins will be there
Peeping Tom
Can anyone really disagree that lolla needs zombie girl in the lineup??
OMG PEARL JAM, IS ALL YOU HAD TO SAY LOVE HAS REIGNED OVER LOLLA
i think they should release dates and times for each band sooner..... urgh
Was at Lollapalooza '92 and Pearl Jam was awesome then...and still are! This will be the 6th PJ show I've been too...would not miss it.
seen them in vegas last july.what a trip!going to lallapalooza and cant wait.please come to atlanta and save me some money.kp
I have seen pearl jam over 20 times over the years, and being able to see them at Lolla near my home has made my summer!
Pearl Jam - defining the concept of complete utter talentless worthless shit for years now.
