Joshua Tree Music Festival | 2007 Line-up

California music festivals are popular for a number of reasons. They have that old hippie there-for-the-music feel combined with relative proximity to the luxuries of modern life. They are virtually guaranteed not to get rained out. And they draw in stunning performers from all across the world because...who doesn’t want to go play music all weekend in California?
The Joshua Tree Music Festival is no exception to the norm. The festival takes place May 18th - 20th, with two alternating stages and music running from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. You can camp out at the nearby lake, bring your own eats and drinks, and generally enjoy the laidback attitude of a California music festival.

WHITperson's add-on:
This is Kathyrn's post, but I just felt compelled to chime in...
This line-up's got some interesting aspects. For lack of a better term, there's a cool "International" element to many of these bands that might be really attractive to the open-minded listener. Just look at some of these names: Los Amigos Invisibles, Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra, Heavyweight Dub Champion, Manejo Beto, Meltone (from Japan). Maybe it's the Eastern Cali location. Either way, this is a pretty sweet set-up for a smaller, local festival. Add all that to the warm California sun and you've got yourself a helluva a music festival!
My only gripe is that they have both Pnuma Trio and the New Deal, quite possibly the two "live electronic" bands that sound the most alike. Don't get me wrong, both bands have their moments and will provide a nice dancey bit of pep to this festival. But it just seemed like an odd pairing given their similarities (or maybe it's just the instrumental set-up: keys, bass, drums). Who knows, maybe they'll join forces for what I've always wanted two of these types bands to do: play a nasty drum'n'bass jam with just those instruments from each band and call it, yep, "Drums and Basses!" Cheesy huh? But you gotta admit it'd be pretty cool!
