Over at the Chicago Tribune today (thanks Chicagoist), they're asking the very question that I tend to answer for myself many times a week...
What band / artist do you want to see before you / they die?
Whether or not they'd ever reunite, The Police would be up there on that list for me. How 'bout you?
Oh, and just for fun, please try your hardest not to say Phish.
My top 10:
- Pink Floyd
- Pink Floyd
- Pink Floyd
- Pink Floyd
- Pink Floyd
- Pink Floyd
- Pink Floyd
- Pink Floyd
- Pink Floyd
- The Kinks (actually I saw them in 1982, but the liquor I imbibed during the show has wiped the slate clean)
And Phish of course, it's been years since the last European tour. Sorry Justin, I tried, must the flue which still has not left my body completely. Down With Disease, I say.
=]
Yeah, I knew it would make an appearance quickly...
May I add that I was fortunate enough to see both Dutch 1993 Velvet Underground shows? God, I miss Sterling Morrison, a very underrated guitar player. Otherwise the Velvets would have taken place 1-10.
I saw The Phish and The Pink Floyd and The The Who and The The Stones so...
The Police? Naw...I'd rather go on Oysterhead Tour.
How about...Page, Plant AND Jones for me--one of the most vastly underrated musicians and arrangers in the bidness.
Did you not catch the Oysterhead tour during 2001? I was fortunate enough to see one of the shows and I loved every second of it...(antler/whamola/noodle jam and all)
oysterhead asheville 11.17.01 was AWESOME...glad I went.
I'd have to say:
Gregory Isaacs
Radiohead
a full Les Paul show (saw a brief soundcheck - wow)
?? that's all I have right now.
Another one for me would be Red Hot Chili Peppers--hopefully 2006 is the year for that...
I missed Oysterhead. At the Vegoose press tent thang, Trey & Les alluded to wanting to do it again if their schedules permit...
I would love, love, love the Oysterhead reunion if it ever came about.
I don't think they gave it enough time, but of course, having three alpha-dogs all trying to call the shots was probably overwhelming...
I managed to just hear oysterhead right after they stopped touring, so that's high up on my list, also RHCP. For some reason I also have this desire to see The Rolling Stones before I die, though I wish I could see a show from the 60's/70's and not the current ones, but I can't. Hmmm Radiohead also, since they tour soooo rarely, same with Beastie Boys.
Beastie Boys are a treat to see live for sure, especially with Mix Master Mike behind the turntables...
I've seen them twice, once following Hello Nasty, once following To The 5 Boroughs--the Hello Nasty show trumped the second time around, but they were both amazing concerts in their own right...
1. Big Sugar (requires re-union)
2. Grady (a full show, I've only seen a 45min set)
3. Metallica in a small club
4. Pearl Jam in a small club
5. The Rolling Stones in a small club
6. Gov't Mule (not just that I want to see them, but I want to see them every single time I possibly can)
1)Radiohead (coulda had free tix in Chitown right after OK Comp was released, turned em down to catcha Phish show...d'oh!)
2)Nellie McKay
3)Bela Fleck & Tony Trishka duet
4)Modest Mouse
5)William Shatner (fer kicks)
6)Talking Heads (requires another reunion)
People I (technically) could have seen, but didn't and now never will 'cause I wasn't in the right place at the right time:
1)John Hartford
2)Bill Monroe
3)Garcia/Grisman
4)Johnny Cash
5)Nirvana
Ouch...
Yeah, I almost forgot about Talking Heads.
Reunions are okay to speculate, especially if you consider that all the members are still alive and they recently did their Hall of Fame reunion to play a couple tunes...
taking tang's suggestion, shows I could have seen but didn't now I'm mad I didn't:
Rage Against the Machine
Sublime
Nirvana
Vida Blue and Spam Allstars
Pink Floyd
