The Mars Volta | 2008 Tour Dates

I’m not sure if I’ve really ever taken a poll of the readership on this site, so I’m curious what the popular consensus is here on The Mars Volta. I’ve yet to see these guys live and I’m still kicking myself for missing the April 20 show that they played in Chicago, but the timing of my move cross-country was getting in the way mentally. I’ve vowed to never miss these guys again because their music is more impressive technically than more than I’ve ever been exposed to. Judging from the live videos I’ve seen, these guys look to have more energy than they know what to do with.

I still find it funny that these guys made on Letterman, too. I wonder how the studio audience reacted, but I wonder more about how the audience at home must have reacted. Even expecting the music to sound the way it does, this video just knocks the piss right of you.

  1. I was at that Letterman show, it sounded so much better live than on TV but the video is very cool. The audience was polite, there were several of us there to support them though, we were louder than the unpaid Letterman interns would have liked us to be. It was fucking cool, Thomas killed as usual. Definitely see them whenever you can live!

  2. I have been a fan of The Mars Volta for several years, but had only seen them on video clips form the net. I have read many comments and different opinions, but personally, I think anyone who can truly listen to and appreciate what’s going on with their music might realize that TMV shall undoubtedly be regarded as one of the true ‘auteurs’ of this generation’s contemporary progressive music. I had the privilege to see them a few weeks ago in Vancouver. Although the arena venue left much to be desired, I felt I witness some musical ground-breaking. The show was roughly two and one half hours long. No back up, no encore, no pauses to chat - not even a hiccup. These guys are true professionals and serious about what they do. They have also improved over what I had already seen on video. I can only hope they shall, one day, put out a DVD from the ‘Bedlam’ tour. Surely a treat to be desired!
