EMI, Apple to Sell Non-DRM Tracks through iTunes

Breaking news: EMI and Apple have announced that they will begin selling the EMI digital catalog through the iTunes Music Store that will be free of digital rights management (DRM) restrictions. Tracks will be $1.29, up slightly from the DRM-laden tracks sold for $0.99. The Beatles digital catalog is not included in part of this deal.
TechCrunch is calling April 2, 2007, “the beginning of the end for DRM,” and I can easily echo that sentiment. This is a huge step forward in the digital music world and I can’t wait to see the market reaction to this…

this is really exciting. now if we can just get everyone on the lossless band wagon. i would like to see that as a third option available through itunes, then i might get an ipod. there is a good write up of the press conference over at macuser.com, for anyone interested.
