Bonnaroo 2007 | Artists Additions, Round Two

So Bonnaroo announced a few more artist additions today, including the following:

Ornette Coleman
El-P
David Bromberg and Angel Band
Flight of the Conchords
The New Orleans Klezmer Allstars
Yard Dogs Road Show

In my opinion this is pretty weak sauce, with the big exception of free jazz maestro, Ornette Coleman....that's wild! He's liable to freak out even the freakiest freaksters!

Maybe El-P will bring some hip-hop flavor, but beyond that, I don't really see anything that's going to get a lot attention here. This announcement seems to add credence to my earlier suggestion that the initial artists lineup wasn't actually supposed to be so big. Then again, the site also says more artists announcements are on the way over the next few weeks.

What do all you folks think? Am I missing something? Any bigger announcements still on the way?

I am with you man, definately weak sauce. I was hoping for a few big names to help my decision to spend the rediculous amount of money that Bonnaroo costs. I am going to Wakarusa...

People, don't forget that there are going to be over 100 bands this year, which is probably part of the reason for the added cost. Previous years haven't had over 75 performers, not to mention the increased number of comedy acts.. as for the additions, Ornette Coleman will be INCREDIBLE!! One of the forerunners of the free jazz movement, he is sure to please. He was recently given the lifetime achievement award at the grammys, and instrumental jazz album of the year, even if he is 77, it will be amazing, and one of the few times Roo'ers will get to see such a high caliber sax player. El-P will be good on the hip hop side, I wouldn't mind seeing some more of the Living Legends to join up with him, though I would imagine Aesop Rock will probably join him on stage. Also, upon doing a little research, the Yard Dogs Road Show looks like a pretty interesting burlesque show, and they will have their own tent, and performing 2-3 times daily, so I wouldn't worry about them taking someone elses slot. I wouldn't be surprised to see some other veteran roo additions, such as Claypool, or Umphrey's in the next round.

Im thinking that Claypool in some form or another is pretty likely. I'd really like to see them announce either the Shins or Modest Mouse. Both are coming off of new cds so you never know. So far I havnt been impressed ta all with their additions, but I'm hoping that they are saving the better ones for later.

true, this doesn't include the big names everyone is looking for, but over on the inforoo someone said it perfectly, they covered jazz, bluegrass, hip-hop, a handful of genres that weren't represented initally. I personally don't know anything about any of these, but thats the essence of bonnaroo, learn about new artists at everyone's favorite festival. And to Jim, have fun at waka, try not to get arrested for doing something, hell anything.

Ornette Coleman is a grammy winning legend and adds an amazing jazz element to the already eclectic Bonnaroo lineup. El-p, whose new album has been praised as his best yet, will definitely bring some awesome underground hip-hop to the scene.

The NO Klezmer allstars will add a funky NOLA vibe (which can never hurt), while the Yard Dogs Road Show will entertain everyone with stunts and naked antics.

I dig these additions - nothing to complain about in my book

Wow. no one has said anything about David Bromberg!!! Man that guy is amazing, and definately one of the better live performers on the list. To me him and O. Coleman are BIG additions. Seriously if you dont know David Bromberg check him out......his CD demon in disguise is especially good (he is joined by Jerry and some of the other GD on there).
