The powerhouse duo of and came out so huge in 2011 with the release of the Watch The Throne, an arena rap epic album with Kanye’s production value and Jay-Z’s smooth flow (along with a rad Beyonce cameo on the second track). Then they did a huge tour, and the live videos from the shows were absolutely bonkers.

They also encored with “Niggas in Paris” regularly and would actually go on to repeat the track a few times depending on the energy in the crowd. Like seven times in New Orleans. Or seven times in Detroit. So it’s not surprising that they chose to officially release the video for “Niggas in Paris” through the proxy of their live shows; the vocal mix itself seems to sound like a mix of both the studio version and a live version but the video is all live and full of quick cuts and lasers and shit.

It even comes with a epilepsy warning at the beginning (bonus!)…

It’s pretty remarkable to see these guys on late-night TV already (is that some sort of record?). They just jumped onto the scene last fall at CMJ and have been getting an amazing amount of hype ever since. But, there’s good reason for that hype.

@ The Mezzanine, 2/1/12 | © Pete Merriman

While it could be old news to other folks who’ve followed his work for years, last Wednesday night was my first exposure to the comedian / musician / actor known as Reggie Watts. As part of San Francisco’s annual SketchFest, Reggie Watts was in town to do a Reggiedency, a four-night showcase spread between a bunch of different venues in SF. The show I caught was at Mezzanine and while I missed the openers of Garfunkel and Oates, the show I saw was action packed. READ MORE

Give Me All Your Luvin', !

There was obviously a ridiculous amount of hype surrounding this year’s Halftime show with Madonna, but I think she came out and totally slayed the show last night. The performance started with some old-school gladiator shit thrown on the top of “Vogue,” which medleyed itself into “Music” not too far after the song started. Stages were shifting, performers were dancing themselves in and out of the picture, and then makes an appearance with a “Music” / “Party Rock Anthem” mashup performed live. We even got a little “Sexy and I Know It” before the new Madonna song showed up. Seeing and dance on stage with Madonna was a treat, and took the chance to stay at the top of the headlines today by flipping off the camera live on her “I don’t give a shit” line in the song. Then somehow Cee Lo showed up leading a drum line which brought out “Open Your Heart” and “Express Yourself.” Then “Like a Prayer” made everyone feel like they were in church…
