Happy Friday, gang! I thought I’d drop a little west coast love today in anticipation of our Phish Friday post coming in a few; thanks to the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, we’ve got a pair of tickets to giveaway to the LCD Soundsystem and Sleigh Bells show at The Pearl club at Palms on October. Read on for the info!
North Coast Music Festival is set to kickoff their inaugural year next weekend in Chicago’s Union Park, and we’re got FIVE pairs of tickets to giveaway to the lucky fans in the area that can make it out for the event.
For those that haven’t been following, the festival is a newcomer to an already packed Chicago festival circuit, with Pitchfork Music Festival in July and Lollapalooza in August. Add to that a plethora of street festivals around town and the fact that you’re driving distance from Alpine Valley and Deer Creek, you’ve got yourself a pretty action-slammed summer musically speaking. Not that you could afford tickets to all of those events or make time for it, but talk about choices. So many you were on the fence with this one, even though the headliners of Umphrey’s McGee, Disco Biscuits, Nas & Damian Marley, Moby, Pretty Lights, and Lotus are really worth the ticket price and definitely deserve your attention on a warm, autumn afternoon in the great Windy City. That’s where we step in… READ MORE
Lollapalooza is fast-approaching and it’s going to be rad weekend for live music in my old stomping ground, Chicago. We’ll have a man on the ground and be watching the coverage elsewhere, and ahead of that we have a little gift for the MGMT fans that are going to be attending the festival. We’ve got one pair of tickets to giveaway for the band’s after-show at House of Blues on Friday, August 6th with Francis and the Lights and AWOLNATION supporting. You can even get a chance to rock-it VIP style if you go and download AWOLNATION’s album.
Go ahead and drop a comment if you’re down for the free tickets and tell me what you’re favorite song off the latest release from MGMT, Congratulations. We’ll pick a winner at random on Thursday!

It’s not often that we get approached to be a ‘breaking news’ sort of music news vehicle, so whenever I get the chance to promote something that is pretty unique for the audience I like to try and put the word out. And thanks to my T-Mobile® myTouch™ 3G Fender™ Limited Edition sponsors, I have it on authority that the band Deer Tick is going to be playing a “secret” (though not anymore) show in San Francisco on Wed, 3/3 at the Independent, which is ahead of their already scheduled return to San Francisco with Dr. Dog in April. For fans of the band that want to see this here Deer Tick show, you better get in line…the show will be free on a first-come, first-serve basis and it’s going to be a good one.
If you’re down with going to the show, you should email this address first to let them know you’re coming. They may add you to some mailing list or something, or they may just give you all tickets if you in the group that’s smaller than the allotted amount of tickets going out the door. I’m not sure either way, so buyer beware on that front. I’ll be at the show with friends and I’ll be making this my first opportunity to see this band in their native setting before opening up for Dr. Dog at Great American Music Hall in April; I’ve already got my tickets to that one.
Who’s going to try and make it out for this? Let me know so we can chill at the show…
Earlier this week we let you know about some great things we’ll be doing at Metro here in Chicago to help get more and more readers to see great live music. For this Saturday’s show featuring two pairs of musicians, Crystal Castles & Lymbyc Systym, we’re offering two pairs of tickets. For the first two comments that appear on this post, we’ll get your name on the list over at Metro with a +1 and you’ll be all set to go for the show.
Both of these bands are truly fantastic, they definitely have different sounds and their live shows are nearly at two extremes but collectively it will be an amazing night of music. Lymbyc Systym has just finished a new split LP this past summer and the new stuff is great. Crystal Castles has been riding the wave of support for their eponymous debut that released earlier this year.
Though I usually enjoy a more creative contest in order to get something free, we’re a little late on this one and therefore need to get the names in asap. Please remember to leave an email address and obviously your name so that you won’t get shut out. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
