February is always an exciting time of year to plan ahead for music festival season and this week has been a busy one around these parts. Everyone else is getting busy, too; it looks like the Bonnaroo website was just relaunched with a new set of 2012 graphics and a promise of an artist announcement coming sometime next week.
And yesterday, the internets came ablaze with a pretty shockingly close rendition of the artist lineup (new artwork!) we would expect out of the Bonnaroo 2012 lineup, even if it’s an obvious fake complete with a typo or two and a few big calls that really could be false (but would be ill if it actually went down, like Paul Simon doing Graceland in its entirety). This dude on the Inforoo.org boards was the genius behind it all (via Hidden Track).
It still got me psyched to see what actually comes out next week, and the three headliners on the top of the bill were exactly as we’ve seen confirmed elsewhere (like Radiohead and Red Hot Chili Peppers) or heavily rumored and plausibly likely (Phish).
So we know that much (kinda): Radiohead and Red Hot Chili Peppers for sure. Phish probably. The Word definitely. Skrillex likely (heh). And sure, why not Randy Newman? Belee dat! READ MORE

Earlier today, I posted a quick round-up of NYC area venue news, including rumors of the return of CBGBs. But it appears that was only half the story. READ MORE
You’ve probably been following at least an inkling or rumor through Twitter that Phish is basically good-to-go for a multi-night run in Atlantic City some time in June. The local press has been leaking all they can to get the word out and tons of folks have already booked hotel rooms. Hidden Track seemed to be the first to post on this potential event, and now with this article late last week in pressofatlanticcity.com, an announcement seems imminent.
Atlantic City Council approves four outdoor music festivals for Bader Field, with Phish, Kenny Chesney, Metallica [pressofAtlanticCity.com]
Four multiday music festivals have been approved by City Council for Bader Field this year.
Press of Atlantic City columnist Pinky Kravitz reports in today’s Region section that headliners for the festivals will include Phish, Kenny Chesney and Metallica.
We’re always a little unsure of booking ourselves before the news itself is official, so we’ll update you here when you can start planning your summer tour. For now, consider it a rumor and pay attention to those “in the know” on Twitter. Or just follow @Phish and get the news when most people get it…
SBNation.com is reporting that they’ve got sources confirming Madonna for the next upcoming Super Bowl halftime show nonsense.
Madonna will perform during the Super Bowl XLVI halftime show at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on February 5, sources close to the event told SBNation.com on Monday. A spokesperson for the NFL declined to comment.
We’ll go with the rumor for now; I’d rather see her do the show than Black Eyed Peas again, that much is certain…
There’s huge news coming out of the Radiohead camp this morning following a radio show sit-in that Thom Yorke did with Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio. You can hear the whole show here:
Thom Yorke returns as Gilles’s special studio guest this week, and he brings with him an exclusive Jamie xx remix of Radiohead as well as the new remix album due for release next month!
The two go back to back for the whole show, and touch on everything from Berliners Modeselektor and Anstam’s dark beats, through to Footwork from DJ Slugo and some classic Bristol swag from Massive Attack. But not before dipping into classic US Jazz from Duke Ellington and Bossa Nova from Segio Garcia.
Radiohead fans and music lovers alike, this show is not to be missed!
The big reveal came during the interview segments where Yorke mentions that Radiohead will indeed be touring next year “on and off” and that he’s working on an Atoms for Peace album following the band’s epic 2010 tour (all via Green Plastic Radiohead). I saw the band at the Fox Theater in Oakland when they rolled through ahead of their Coachella appearance, and it was an absolute triumph of amazing music and I’m hella down with anything these guys are going to put together for a proper studio project.
And regarding the tour, it makes sense now especially given that the Coachella rumor mill is already saying that Radiohead and No Doubt are confirmed for the two-weekend festival in 2012. There’s really no reason to think it would not come true given the band’s affinity for the festivals last time they toured in support of In Rainbows. Good news for us in the Bay Area; Coachella week is always epic with the amount of music we get flowing in and out of the area. We’ll definitely be following this news closely.
Quick Phish update on this Tuesday evening…the ocelot is slipping out of the bag regarding the band’s much anticipated 2011 Summer Tour.
Earlier today, we got the most “official” word so far as The Riverbend Music Center in Ohio updated their events page and listed Phish as performing on Sunday June 5th. It has since been removed but not before a public onsale of March 12th was listed and devoured by the Phish community. Here’s a screengrab of the page before it was taken down (via @ohkeepahblog)…
With knowledge of the Riverbend public onsale, we can use some logic and guesswork on how the rest of the tour dates are going to make their way out. Phish should make the official announcement early next week, hopefully with another promo video, with Phish Tickets By Mail (PTBM) starting immediately and most likely ending around March 4th. That would allow PTBM notifications to be sent out the following week (by March 8th or so) in time for the public onsale.
The band last performed at the Riverbend Music Center on September 20, 2000 concocting a jam out of “It’s Ice” that hasn’t been heard from since…
Other rumors from the web that could have long legs: Camden 6/10, No Hampton and no West Coast dates ’til the second leg of Summer/August.
