I’m finally sitting back at my desk in SF and I’m getting my first official re-listen of the first night that Phish played UIC Pavilion this past Monday. A week ago at this time I was packing up and getting ready for a 6am flight the next day to see Phish in Chicago, and as many have reported it was definitely an insanely strong show and almost felt like a completely different band than what fans were seeing on the West Coast. This was one of the highlights from the first night, the official LivePhish.com HD video of “Undermind.” Highly recommend that you download this show. >>>
I decided to shoot some video during the Phish set last night at the perfect moment. The jam out of “Rock and Roll” seemed to flow seamlessly into “Steam” last night, a song that people were definitely predicting would make an appearance more this tour and especially at Golden Gate Park. Predictions were correct amongst my crew and we got a great version of this tune last night right before a really solid “Piper” with tons of Type II action finishing it off.
Make sure you launch the 720p version and go full-screen to get a feel for what the energy looked like on the lawn. The drop at 1:30 is super buttery; I’m loving the way this band has been playing all tour.
You’ve likely already seen the whole lot of these if you follow our blog but this is still worth its own post. Some kind soul on YouTube named skriddler decided to splice together all of the professionally shot videos that Phish.com released this year and it’s now one big three-hour video that easily demands your attention again on the next rainy or snowy day to grace your hood.

Ever since the news broke last year that Marco Benevento would be treating the classic film, House of Usher, to his own personal score and presentation of said score in a public setting, I always wondered how those shows came out. Thanks to cleantones on YouTube, we can see the whole show from October 22nd, 2010 that was filmed at the MASS MoCa during the few times this saw the light of day last year. From this review, it would seem as though the show was an outright success…
Throw in hyperbolic dramatic acting, gothic adornments of the mansion, ever-increasing suspense and intensity, hints of being buried alive and other eerie details and that is the House of Usher that Benevento meticulously studied in preparation for his score.
Benevento in his brilliance was enthralling to watch himself, and was like a child in an electronic candy store, constantly tweaking synth and adding effects to his playing. Mathis banged on wood blocks and metal tins, and their collective sound was building as the House of Usher itself was falling apart.
I wouldn’t say that everyone came away impressed, though. READ MORE
Last night I finally got a chance to get through all three parts of the mini-documentary that Girl Talk put together from his New Year’s Eve 2009 concert in Chicago, and having been a bit more inspired by music like this lately I was totally floored at the behind the scenes footage. READ MORE
