Post image for PREVIEW @LMBNOLA: tUnE-yArDs @ One Eyed Jacks 10/2/11
WTUL is killin’ it these days with their select show promotions, helping bring a SOLD OUT Explosions in the Sky to Tipitina’s on Wednesday and closing down the week with the highly-buzzed about tUnE-yArDs at One Eyed Jacks, one of the more unique bands to come out of the indie universe this year. Doors are at 9 p.m., Pat Jordache will be opening and tickets are still available for $14. The twin bill makes for a full night of intriguing and off-kilter pop music in the rouge French Quarter bordello – with music from both artists that will surely be both colorful and artful.

represented the Wish You Were Here album tonight on as part of their week celebrations by playing the title track. I’d say he does it justice but I’m definitely not the best judge ever of either artist’s material. Check out the video for yourself…

Post image for QUOTE: John Shannon on Pink Floyd

When I was a kid, 6 yrs old or so, my uncle used to give me tapes to check out. I would take them and play them on an old boom box while I acted out some kind of Highlander journey playing with toy guns and swords in the basement. Whatever tape I put on would become my theme music. He had given me Ummagumma which I gladly accepted because of song names such as “Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict” and “Astronomy Domine.” Needless to say I think it influenced my inner journey that day, definitely took me to some new places in my mind, and served as a great intro into a life of listening to Floyd while appreciating their psychedelic origins.

On a stormy Wednesday night, Texas space rockers Explosions in the Sky washed every molecule of space in 501 Napoleon with riff squalls, overflowing the building with ambitious, montage-y triple guitar rock music. I moved around a fair bit given the somewhat short set (75 minutes or so) and never arrived at a spot inside [...]
