And there we have it folks! After a good six months of rumors and leaks about a 2011 festival at Watkin’s Glen in Upstate NY, Phish finally made the official announcement today. Check it out:
Phish “Super Ball IX” A Three-Day Festival from Phish on Vimeo.
And here’s their matching description:
Sensational. Mind-blowing. Fantabulous.
These are all words with the same amount of letters as SUPER BALL IX.
It’s Phish’s biggest. Ball. Ever. So big we can’t. Contain it. In one sentence. Super Ball IX, Phish’s ninth festival, will take place July 1-3 at Watkins Glen International. Located amidst the rolling hills of central New York’s Finger Lakes region, the site offers an abundance of campsites and is just a short drive from numerous Northeastern cities. Super Ball IX will mark Phish’s first-ever performance over July 4 weekend, and the first major music festival held at Watkins Glen since 1973′s legendary Summer Jam. It is also Phish’s first-ever performance at a facility with “Watkins” in its name.
Tickets for Super Ball IX go on sale this Monday, April 4th, at Noon ET at superballIX.portals.musictoday.com. On-site camping is included in the price of admission. Like previous Phish festivals, the event will include numerous activities, attractions and art installations in addition to a series of performances by the band. Camping and travel packages will. Be. Available. (Sorry, hard habit to break.)
Well giddy-up bitchez, that’s rad.

The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival organizers have announced that they will be releasing the schedule cubes with set times for all stages around noon on Wednesday morning at a press conference that will be attended by Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
Additionally, festival organizers will be providing more information about the celebration of Haitian music and culture that is going to be a unique feature of this year’s festival. Jazz Fest 2011 will reportedly play host to the largest celebration of Haitian culture in the U.S. since the devastating earthquake in January of last year and such icons of Haitian music and culture including Wyclef Jean, Tabou Combo, RAM, Boukman Eksperyans, Emeline Michel, Djakout #1, DJA-Rara and Ti-Coca & Wanga Négès are slated to perform at various times throughout the weekend. Also, notable to add that Arcade Fire member Régine Chassagne is the daughter of Haitian emigrants and the band raised over $1 million in proceeds last year to benefit the recovery.

LCD Soundsystem began their farewell run last night in New York with a triumphant first show at Terminal 5, featuring a male choir (that was tweeted in advance), Reggie Watts, The Juan MacLean, the entire 45:33 album, not to mention two encores to close out the night. This was only the first show, too…
Brooklynvegan already has pics up. I wonder if anyone taped this.
Drop some comments if you have some solid links to add to the coverage. I’m excited to see the media coming out of these shows…

Paul Simon recently announced a spring tour across the country and quickly sold-out many of the dates on the tour, so today the news broke that he’s also added some club shows in the sold-out geographies for the fans that might not have tickets yet. This means that SF fans now get a chance to see Simon at the famed Fillmore with shows also added in Seattle, LA, Chicago, Toronto, D.C. and Boston. Via the press release:
“I’m going to play 3,000 seat theaters and also clubs,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I want to play several songs from the new album and music from my repertoire that I either haven’t played in concert or have played very seldom. I want to let the band be freer. I’m actually really looking forward to this tour. I’ll play a few songs by other people, maybe a couple of Simon and Garfunkel songs. And then late in the evening, who knows, I might pick up my acoustic guitar and sing whatever comes into my mind. That’s the fun of clubs, it’s looser. I can come at it all from a place that’s fresh.”
Sweet. Read on for the dates…

I got back from SXSW this past weekend, but I’m still in a bit of shock and awe (and recovery) from my five days down there. I’ve been meaning to post this since Sunday, but I’ve also been battling some kind of post-SXSW plague while trying to catch up at work.
SXSW is this weird, all-encompassing music industry free-for-all that showcases the best and not-so-best of this industry I have somehow found myself engulfed in. While I came away totally exhausted and fairly overwhelmed, I also managed to run a very successful Day Party (for eMusic at the Beauty Bar), see some solid panels, eat some great BBQ and tacos, and, of course, catch a ton of killer shows. I also put my new lens to its first true test, so my review below is pretty photo-heavy with a few themes and thoughts to pull it all together. READ MORE
