I was really excited to see the announcement this morning that Fleet Foxes are returning with a new album and tour early this year. Sub Pop will be releasing the band’s follow up to their eponymous breakthrough released in 2008 with this year’s Helplessness Blues, and the band has offered up the title track for streaming in anticipation of the release.
The band starts their tour in Vancouver on April 30th. Sadly I’ll be missing their West Coast run as I’ll already be in New Orleans for Jazz Fest by the time they play the Fox Theater in Oakland, but plenty of you other live music fans will have the chance to check them out soon. Read on for the dates…
It looks like we’re going to be putting those Phish / Dave Matthews Band festival rumors to bed pretty quick given the latest buzz update on the twitters. Bands That Jam is now confirming that Phish has signed into a contract putting their next festival at the heavily rumored Watkins Glen racetrack over Fourth of July weekend, a hard conflict for me and plenty of my West Coast crew that already made plans to be at High Sierra 2011 with Ween (among others). If there’s anything that could ever pull me away from High Sierra, it would certainly be a three-day East Coast Phish festival.
We’ll have more on the announcement as it’s made official by the band, as I’m sure we’ll need to wait for their webmaster to get the site set up to start stoking people’s interest for the festival.
You’ve likely already seen the whole lot of these if you follow our blog but this is still worth its own post. Some kind soul on YouTube named skriddler decided to splice together all of the professionally shot videos that Phish.com released this year and it’s now one big three-hour video that easily demands your attention again on the next rainy or snowy day to grace your hood.

Over the last week or so, we’ve been hearing a slew of new rumors about potential new festivals in 2011. Some involve Phish, some Dave Matthews Band, some include both bands, while others sound like they’ll be multi-band events in the traditional festival style (e.g. Bonnaroo, Coachella, etc…). All Tomorrow’s Parties has announced its fourth annual New York-Area Music Festival, called I’ll Be Your Mirror, slated for the weekend of Sept 30 – Oct 2, 2011. The event will be curated by UK trip-hopsters, Portishead, and will also feature rare performances from Jeff Mangum, formerly of Neutral Milk Hotel. Other confirmed bands include Chavez, Shellac, Cults and the Album Leaf, with many more bands still TBA.
For 2011, ATP will also be moving away from Kutsher’s Resort in Monticello, NY, to a new ocean-side location in Asbury Park, NJ, with shows being held at the Convention Hall and the Paramount Theatre. Read on for the current lineup and ticket info. READ MORE
This may be the fastest sell-out of Coachella on record. If you missed your chance at Kanye, Kings and Arcade Fire, better start hitting up Craigslist to see who’s got your heady extra. My attention has already shifted to the Jazz Fest late-nights and the info that is starting trickling out…
Unfounded rumors of headliners including Phish, Tool, Jack Johnson, Weezer, Dave Matthews Band and My Morning Jacket are floating around today and I expect this year’s lineup to more than trump 2010′s impressive debut. To get all seven of those acts I would assume they would have to considerably slash their asking prices (and maybe they would to benefit the ongoing Gulf Coast relief efforts).
Phish, Tool, & Jack Johnson? LULZ.
Update: “soon” actually means a full lineup announcement is coming on Tuesday. Definitely stay tuned.
I’m really psyched to see that some of the lineups for Jazz Fest shows are being announced now that the official lineup has been posted. First up in my long list of “pay attention to this…” announcements is the earliest, I believe; Superfly Presents announced the lineup today for their “Superfly during Jazzfest” series and [...]
Our fav band of white boys playing West African grooves will be webcasting their show tonight from the Llama in Telluride, CO, courtesy of the folks at the Telluride Jazz Celebration. The shows kicks off around 10pm MT. Last time I caught these guys was last September at Brooklyn Bowl and they did not disappoint: [...]
While the heavily rumored news of a potential Phish festival in upstate NY at the Watkins Glen Raceway is potentially imminent, I’m still eagerly awaiting the lineup for this year’s High Sierra Music Festival in Quincy, CA. I’ve now gone two years in a row and I’ll be considering it a fine tradition in my [...]
Here’s some pretty sweet news for all the Kimock & Zero fans…check it out: For the first time in nearly 20 years, ZERO returns to the Great American Music Hall for a two-night special event: March 4th and 5th. Almost two decades ago, the quintessential Bay Area band recorded ‘Chance in a Million’ at the [...]
Pete just pinged me with the news that Animal Collective is going to playing Great American Music Hall ahead of their scheduled Coachella performance, along with a Henry Miller Memorial Library show down in Big Sur that has my name written all over it. As Pitchfork mentions, this is really only exciting news for the [...]
This is making the rounds this morning (likely via @yemblog) and it’s too good to pass on posting as a standalone. Oddly and timely enough, I know the guy that just launched eightbit.me. Here’s my avatar… I love being a nerd.
The lineup for Jazz Fest 2011 was announced tonight, with Arcade Fire, Kid Rock, Lauryn Hill, Wilco, The Roots, and a variety of other eclectic acts topping the bill along with all the awesome swamp funk standards like Zigaboo and Galactic. At long last, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has announced it’s lineup [...]
Some really sad news out of the STS9 camp this morning… It’s with heavy hearts and eternal optimism for the future that we announce the cancellation of STS9′s Winter Tour 2011 dates in February 2011 and March 2011 while our brother, friend and bass player David Murphy will begin undergoing timely and necessary cancer treatment [...]
Anybody check out that Broken Social Scene webcast last night? What I was able to catch was pretty killer. They featured a nice mix of older, more classic tunes along with a bunch of newer material from Forgiveness Rock Record, which easily made it onto my list of top albums of 2010. Good stuff. Broken [...]
