Post image for Irving Plaza Gets Renamed Back to Irving Plaza

Remember when they renamed Irving Plaza in New York City? Bad idea jeans.

Rethinking, Irving Plaza Keeps Its Maiden Name [NYTimes.com] [via brooklynvegan]

To build a replica of the old marquee, Live Nation hired Ken Lubin, a graphic designer who specializes in signs for Broadway theaters. (He removed the original marquee in 2007 when he installed the new one for the Fillmore, which he made.) It wasn’t easy, Mr. Lubin said, because the old one had been left in an alley behind the club, with chunks of it missing. But there was just enough to serve as a model for its stainless-steel letters and red neon lighting.

Skateboarding to Bonnaroo [WRCBtv.com]

One Florida man is making his way to the annual Festival on an unusual set of wheels.

Dale Louttit is making the trip on his skateboard. He started the nearly 750 mile trip in Punta Gorda, Florida.

In case you’re curious, the longest journey ever documented via skateboard is close to 4,400 miles.

I’m pretty excited to see the Arcade Fire news these days surrounding their upcoming release on August 3rd of their third studio album, The Suburbs. I like the first two tracks that surfaced and I’m eager to hear more, but really I’m excited most to see them on the road and playing festivals here in the good ‘ol U S of A. I wasn’t fully sold on this band until I got to see their live show, and ever since I’ve been a silent fan hoping for more shows and less hype surrounding this highly influential Canadian powerhouse of a band.

More show are coming…well, for the Canadians, at least. The Montreal Gazette is reporting that the band will be returning to the city, Sherbrooke, for two shows a week from now, way ahead of any of their numerous music festival appearances this summer (including a heavily rumored slot at Outside Lands). Let’s hope a few bloggers bring back their thoughts on that one. READ MORE

Phish Covers Compilation: Hook, Line and Sinker [Coventry Music]

Updated in May 2010 (I originally posted this a few years ago. This is a new version, including 3 new cover tunes after ’s 2009 shows.)

This is a compilation of the most Phishy of Phish covers. Whenever possible, the original versions of the songs by the original artists were used, or the versions of the songs that Phish covered (such as Palmer’s Sneaking Sally). In the case of many older and traditional songs, such as Amazing Grace, I included a well known or traditional version, preferably from the era of the song.

This is so sick. Read on for the track list, and download here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.

UPDATE: whereas we listed these as “six” acquisitions before, it’s really more of an advertising partnership with . Go here for the TechCrunch story.

I know this isn’t live music related, but I’ve been a long-time fan of The Hype Machine and use it regularly to sample new music. I wonder what changes we’ll see (if any).

The lineup for Outside Lands is expected to drop first thing tomorrow morning with a video by Eclectic Method that will air on SFWeekly.com, but ahead of that, we’ve got the latest and greatest list of rumored performers that will be making an appearance in Golden Gate Park this year for the fest. The top of the lineup will feature Furthur, My Morning Jacket, Phoenix, and potentially Arcade Fire, all of which seem perfectly suited for this year’s condensed version of the festival. That’s a decent amount of bang for the buck if you snatch up tickets right away…

The lineup has hardly been kept a secret so far, especially with the Ranger Dave clues that were solved via the community of followers on their Twitter account.

Post image for Pitchfork @ Primavera Sound Festival, Day Three

Pitchfork continues its coverage of the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona with Day 3 reviews and photos; Grizzly Bear apparently got a weak reaction…

Primavera Sound Festival [Saturday] [Pitchfork]

But after “Two Weeks”, which surprisingly came in the middle of the set, the pace dwindled, and audience members began filing out early. On quieter numbers like “Ready, Able”, it became frustratingly difficult to hear the music over the chattering crowd, and I began to wish I were in a smaller club a little more suited to ’s intimate baroque style.

I wonder how the crowd at Nateva is going to react.

Last night during the second set of Umphrey’s McGee on Couch Tour, we got an announcement from keyboardist Joel Cummins regarding a festival that the band was going to be a part of in Chicago on Labor Day weekend. The festival is called the North Coast Music Festival and it’s going to be some serious heat for live music that weekend in the city. To get a lineup like this in Chicago starts to provides options to people besides the behemoth that is Lollapalooza, and the smaller and more eclectic and banging mix for your buck seriously puts this in good contention to be a standout festival of the year. Let’s hope for some bomb collaborations.
