Discuss: Where’s My Michael Jackson Tributes?

Open Thread

I got an email from the Metermaids the other day with this track attached: Metermaids – Two Rows of Teeth vs. Thriller [mp3] It got me thinking that I haven’t been hearing too many bands work some level of Michael Jackson tribute into their sets these days. I guess that’s not crazy surprising to anyone, [...]

Bumbershoot 2009: Saturday Recap

Festivals

The first day of Bumbershoot started early at 12:30 with an indoor set by Dyno Jamz. An up-and-coming funky hip-hop act from here in Seattle, they recently won the EMP Sound Off Competition, an under 21 battle of the bands now approaching its 8th year. Supported by the grandeur of the EMP Sky Church’s enormous lighting rig, the band ripped through a solid hour long set filled with some new material and a few spoken word moments as well.

Help the Georgia Theatre Rebuild

I meant to post this a while back, because I wanted to continue to keep attention on the Georgia Theatre fire that destroyed most of the building in its current form. They’re raising money to help rebuild, so I figured I’d drop the info with a photo that came into our inbox after the event. [...]

Trey Anastasio has a small interview in Time Out: New York about his Sept. 12 show coming up with the New York Philharmonic, in which lucky fans will get to see orchestral representations of many Phish and Trey Anastasio Band songs that we all know and love by now. I recently heard his orchestral version [...]

Now They’re Writing Music from Michael DiDonna on Vimeo. I just realized the other day that I’ve seen Marco Benevento more times during 2009 than any other artist, and he’s staying busy this fall with dates around the country with his trio, his Duo, and his supergroup of jamband jazz cats. He just released a [...]

Bumbershoot 2009 Preview

Festivals

Seattle’s musical grab-bag of a festival known as Bumbershoot is coming up September 5-7, and I’ll be headed back this year to check out the activities. Unbeknownst to most of the festival-goers, Bumbershoot is an arts festival as opposed to a strictly music festival, and has a wide variety of options outside of the live [...]

Video: Outside Lands 2009 Recap

Videos

Just for fun, I thought I’d throw together a big highlight video showing all the footage I got while I was at Outside Lands this past weekend. I could go through and give a play by play, but I’m not feeling too inspired by the idea that any of you really want to “read” about [...]

Last Thursday night I got to see one of my favorite bands to see live, Holy Fuck, but the show left a little bit to be desired in my opinion. Maybe it’s because I had seen them like, five times the previous year and accepted the fact that their set would likely be pretty similar [...]
