Day three of Outside Lands is about to begin, and I need to hightail-it down to Golden Gate Park so I can catch some of the set by The Morning Benders. I’m having a blast at the festival so far and I’d rather get down there to enjoy the music, so just assume that I’m going to try and catch a little of everything today. With the major conflict being the Ween / M.I.A. / Band of Horses sets around sunset, I’ll be a bit torn on what I want to watch the most of.
Expect some photos and some videos tomorrow and hope everyone else is having a good weekend! Look for me on the webcast, too.
The first act I caught yesterday was Akron/Family, and I’m extremely glad that I got a chance to see these guys. They completely exceeded all of my expectations, with the standout being this song called “Everyone is Guilty.”
Yesterday’s kickoff to the second Outside Lands Music Festival was amazing. The weather was perfect for a music festival, which is totally unseasonably interesting because you wouldn’t expect weather like we had yesterday during the summer in San Francisco. Today looks like another day filled with sun and good music, so I thought I’d give a run-down of the stuff I’ll be seeing today. I strayed from my plan a bit yesterday once I connected with my friends and went with the flow of the group for a bit, which led to me being about fifth or sixth row for Q-Tip’s set filled with energized nostalgia for his A Tribe Called Quest days. Hopefully I stumbled into some good situations like that today as well.

This was one of the songs I heard as I meandered my way back to the very bottom of the south lot at Red Rocks to put my camera away and get a recharge of beers from my rental car trunk. Patrick was taping:
This is definitely a big live music weekend for me with Outside Lands starting tomorrow, and I’m kicking things off right with Holy Fuck at the Independent tonight.
The grounds are being prepared in Golden Gate Park for this weekend’s second incarnation of the Outside Lands Music Festival, an event that I’ll be in attendance for once again this year. I’m excited for the weekend and the good lineup, and I’m looking forward to seeing a few bands that I’ve never seen before. I’m going to run down what I think I’m going to see this weekend and why I think you should join me. If you’re going to the fest tomorrow drop me a line and maybe we can hang out. READ MORE
It’s fair to say I owe my entire Phish tour to my friend Patrick Nelson, a good man that just happened to come up with one extra ticket for each night of Phish at Red Rocks and happened to offer it up to me after some of his buddies couldn’t commit. I’m a lucky man [...]
The battle for the live concert webcast dominance just got a bit more interesting with the announcement that YouTube was selected as the Outside Lands Music Festival webcast partner, something that they’ve never actually done before. I knew about this for a few weeks and should have announced it, but my sources are all gainfully [...]
I can’t remember if I’ve written about the new White Denim album Fits at all, but it’s easily going to be Top 10 of 2009 for me. Front to back is a sonic masterpiece from a three piece band that gives it their all on stage, producing some of the most vibrant and creative post-garage [...]
10/9 Update: Phish fall dates announced were just announced. 10/31 Update: NYE in Miami has also been confirmed It seems that I’m at about one Phish post a day here on the site and I can’t really see any reason to stopping that, especially now that rumors of a fall tour are starting to pickup. [...]
Stereogum peeped us on the latest on Radiohead fandom on the web with a new live clip of the band doing “These Are My Twisted Words” live for the first time in Austria. twisted words – Radiohead live @ frequency 2009 [YouTube] I personally dig this one; I’m a sucker for a good beat and [...]
I was a little out of pocket this week so I originally missed that Wilco had updated their fall tour dates to include two shows at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago with Tortoise opening up. That is a solid one-two punch of Chicago musical greatness and I really wish I could be in attendance for [...]
I’m feeling particularly nostalgic today about the recent Phish tour and I wanted to get my grainy iPhone photos up that I took at the seven shows I saw, but I thought I’d preview it all with a view from Red Rocks that you wouldn’t think about if you had never been to the venue [...]
Lizard Lounge Not a huge surprise at all that Umphrey’s McGee just added a “TBA” at the bottom of their tour dates for a three-night run in Chicago for New Year’s Eve. Read on for the improg masters’ itinerary for the fall…
Matt just put up his photos from The Flamings Lips at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival. They’re must-see as always (the photos, that is), but the band is no longer retaining that status for me. It comes with a caveat now. It is “they are must-see if you’ve never seen them before and only if [...]
After finally getting to see Red Rocks for the first time with the four-night Phish run, I’m instantly drawn to the Monolith Festival given the location and the lineup this year. There’s some really solid stuff on the bill, but there’s enough overlap in the coming months that I think I’ll get to see most [...]
