Phish “Save the Date” Halloween Festival Update: NOT California? Really?!?

california

I was up and off to a doctor’s appointment today when my crew started texting me that “California had been removed from the map.” Color me surprised, but it definitely appears that the Phish Halloween Festival will not be in California despite weeks of rumors and research that suggest otherwise. I’m not writing it off yet, especially considering Phish has to be watching the community reaction and reacting accordingly in the way that only they know how. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had their developer write some new flash animations on this long-ass timeline that the band has set to slowly release the news. I love the buildup and excitement, but fans are getting antsy and want to book their travel plans already.

It’s totally gonna be Vegas — they’re gonna reboot the Vegoose Music Festival. Think about it — still close to Cali and organizers are same ones from Bonnaroo. It’s just a guess, but one that makes sense. I think…

A lot of sources have been saying California for a while. Phish probably saw what was going on on the internet and this is their way of keeping their fun marketing ploy alive.
It is definitely not a “Vegoose reboot”. This is Phish’s festival, not a Bonnaroo festival. It won’t be a mulitband festival.

Dateland, AZ – old airforce base. Save the “Date” baby, bet on it.

My guess….HI, The Aloha State, Hawaii. Just a hunch. They had Hallowbaloo last year in Honolulu, and Kreutzman played there. You really just never know with these guys.

I’m not sure Murph necessarily meant a full Vegoose Festival reboot including other bands. They might be able to re-tool the Vegoose concept around one band and create a destination-style music festival in Vegas.

I’ve actually been thinking about the way they approached the initial Hampton run and how they might continue to to do these multi-night runs in a way that makes them more festival-like, but also allows them to avoid some of the chaos and hassles that come with hosting a full camping festival.

Phish pushed the limits of the music festival concept in the late 90s, but they may have also reached the limits during the mess that was Coventry. As a result of past experiences and their new mgmt, I could definitely see them trying something new.

Great, great point. I just reread Trey’s interview from the October 2004 issue of Guitar World, (real interesting read now that the boys are back together), he talks over and over about how exhuasting the whole ‘Phish production’ was; and how he was no longer able to put that kind of effort into it. That along with the Coventry debacle…. Multi night runs without the hosting element makes perfect sense.

    California has been sighted!

allow the balloons to take CA away until it disappears … click on View (toolbar) … Zoom … 400% … it’s still there, hovering over the rest of the country.

Good call Lula! Looks like Cali might be the place after all.

I’m not ruling out Vegas but how are they going to supply trasportation to 50K+ fans to and from Sam Boyd stadium which is miles away from the strip? Anyone who was at Vegoose remembers what a pain in the ass it was to get to and from there by shuttle busses, and I’m not at all interested in renting a car to drive to the shows each day. There would be no camping at Sam Boyd either right? It just doesn’t all add up to a good idea for a Phish fest…so my money is still on Indo, but I guess we’ll see if the removal of California from the map is just another great phish joke or not??

Hawaii is not on the map. They could very well remove every state on the map, confusing everybody, then bring Hawaii into the picture. Not very many other places will still be warm in October…
