I remember reading the Phish issue of Relix when the band broke-up and I remember thinking that everything, indeed, seemed so final. The writing that Mike Gordon did regarding the use of his secret equipment seemed as symbolic as Trey giving away the trampolines during Coventry — it just seemed like the band really was moving on past all of this.
But it looks like they’ll be on the next issue of Relix; Phish Coventry has the cover. READ MORE

As a Chicago native, I’m always proud to give a shout-out to Chi-town bands. I lived in Chicago for about four years and was able to catch Future Rock rock out the local club circuit a number of times with their unique brand of live electronic rock. In my opinion, this trio doesn’t get nearly enough respect in the electronic rock or “jamtronica” scene (ugh, I really dislike using the latter label, but it is useful). So it’s great to see these guys grabbing a nice headlining slot at the Metro and a spot at this year’s Rothbury Festival, because they’ve been serious tour workhorses for the last five+ years, and they keep putting together great tunes and a killer live show. Although Future Rock is just as likely to get the house jumpin’ as a band like Lotus or the Disco Biscuits, their sets are a bit more geared towards the songs and crafting cool textures and themes. They also have picked some great covers to hone their sound (check out their takes on Daft Punk and Aphex Twin for some great examples).
For their Spring ’09 tour, they’ve linked up with Canadian electronic rockers Shout Out Out Out Out for the majority of their dates, and I am digging the match-up. The Shout Out guys seems to have taken on the Indie-rock dance party vibe of Holy Fuck and added a ton of vocoder and 80s synths to create their own little computer disco grooves.
Bottom line: These two should make for a nice, dance-friendly show, but with enough exploration and substance to keep you interested.

As always, Lollapalooza has put together a solid lineup consisting of big rock acts, latest indie rock sensations, and some favorites from year’s past. All in all, this lineup looks great.
Now, if I can just work in a trip to Chi-town to take advantage of this.

I almost forgot that this weekend was the annual Green Apple Music Festival across ten cities to celebrate Earth Day and raise money for environmental action. The lineup in D.C. looks the best to me, with The Flaming Lips, moe. and Los Lobos all set to appear tomorrow on The National Mall.
The Flaming Lips, moe., Los Lobos and others will perform during Earth Day On The National Mall by Earth Day Network in partnership with Green Apple Festival Day in Washington DC on Sunday, April 19, 2009. The free event on the National Mall will be emceed by actor Chevy Chase and will also feature performances by DJ Spooky, the Howard University Drummers and the Joy of Motion Dance Center’s teen hip hop company, Urban Impact. Additionally, Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network, actor Matthew Modine, Philippe Pierre Jacques-Yves Arnault Cousteau Jr., Rep. Edward Markey, U.S. House of Representatives among others will speak throughout the day. The theme of the day is the Green Generation – a campaign including renewable energy, green jobs and a new green economy. More on Earth Day is available at www.earthday.net
I can imagine some solid photos coming out of this event and can’t wait to see them. If you end up going or finding some coverage online, send it my way.
