Open Thread: Phish Rumors or Braphecy Backlash?

I realized it super late last night after I had walked home from The Independent, but I completely spaced on getting a Phish Friday post finished off before I had to leave work. I wanted to make sure I had time to write a little bit about their Roxy ‘93 release and it turns out that I didn’t. At least I had an excuse — I caught an absolutely killer Fleet Foxes show with some seriously transcendent moments. Then I got home and read this email…

Dude, I have checked this blog way too many times today for my always anticipated Phish Friday. Where is it? Don’t leave us hangin bro. No, I understand you must have had some real life to live but damn man, I need my fix. Good thing I can get it at phishthoughts.com
I just discovered that site and it is great. If you haven’t already indulged, you’ll be glad you did. See you at the Gorge 2009!

Thanks for the comments, loyal reader. I appreciate your jones for our Phish Friday and I’m sorry that we haven’t delivered on them 100% of the time. I can sense from the tone that it’s clear that there is an overwhelming feeling that Phish is going to be back next year. I can’t say I disagree, which is really wild to think around right now. There are some pretty serious rumors getting thrown around about tour dates and I’m all for linking to them to help continue to perpetuate them, but I thought I’d try to feel for the sentiment out there from the other readers of the site (like this guy quoted above).

Are you guys into all the Phish reunion tour rumors or do you guys think it’s stupid to even try and guess? Are we getting ahead of ourselves? Will they suck when they come back? Is it wrong that I think they’re going to rule?

I will believe it when the band actually says it true.

i firmly believe that they are going to get back together and i also think that talking about it is a great idea. everyone should get excited about this next tour … yes … the next tour.

I’m just glad Trey cleaned himself up – that in itself would make any reunion start off on the right foot.

Ah it’s fun to hope and no harm done in that.
If they do tour again, it’s going to be even better (is that possible?)

One more thing…

I’m a DMB fan…to a lesser degree over the past few years, but still a diehard. After Leroi passed it made it even more evident that you should appreciate a good thing while it’s still around. As I mentioned prior, having Trey back on the right track is something that trumps any reunion; however, with him being in a better part of life, so to speak, I know at least I’ll appreciate Phish when/if they return. I don’t expect them to be on par with anything pre-hiatus. I honestly don’t care as long as they’re having a good time and jamming away.

They will be back. I’m hoping though that Trey will step back and not try to dominate the band like he did on the last few tours. I skipped the ‘03 tour cuz Trey pissed me off in ‘00; seeing them at IT confirmed he was still doing it. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE this band. But hopefully we will see a band that gets back to its roots on this next tour.

Being at Coventry I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that it absolutely DID NOT feel like that was the last time they would be on stage playign together publicly (weddings don’t count). I turned to anyone that would listen to me and said that they would be back. THEY WILL BE BACK! HIATUS SUCKS!!

I was always a big phish fan in the past. I’m just worried if they come back and dont live up to what they used to be.

im getting the feeling that they will reunite in 09. im not so certain it will be a long term thing, i dont see them touring three tours a year like they did in 2007-2009, but all i always ask for is one more show. not to mention the dead might tour again next year for the 1st time since 2004. peace.

i meant 1997-1999. stoner mistake.

Call me an old school cynic, if you want. I despise reunions. I saw the last so-called “pre-hiatus” shows in Mt. View, 2000, and that seemed a fitting conclusion to the work of 17 years. Getting out while the getting was still good. Everything after that, as far as I was concerned, didn’t exist. Hadn’t the “scene,” such as it was, already reached a point where it was time to move on? There’s plenty of other grooves worth dancing to, and a wonderful collection of recorded Phish shows to last us the rest of a lifetime. I’m happy enough with that.

And a quick note to Sammy. There’s ain’t no such thing as the Dead, neither, after 1995.

It will happen folks…america is sorely lacking a major rock band, all they gotta do is book the dates. I’m in VT, rumor is it’s only a matter of time.
