Fountain @ Lollapalooza

In an blessing-in-disguise turn of events, I find myself in the day before Lollapalooza 2008 begins and I’m amped as hell for the festival to get underway. This will be my third year in a row attending the fest, although this year I only plan on going Friday with the hopes of catching an incendiary performance. Some of the rest of the LMB crew will be there on Saturday and Sunday to round out the coverage, so we should have a nice roundup of photos and reviews following the weekend. And I really have no doubt that we’re in for a treat; both times prior that I’ve attended this festival were fantastic. I’ve seen some incredible music at this event over the past few years — Daft Punk, Pearl Jam, , Wilco, Manu Chao, The Rapture, you name it, really — and I hope the storms stay away tomorrow long enough for us to get our groove on in the middle of Grant Park.

Given that we’re breaking up the coverage a bit between us bloggers here, I figured I’d give a preview of what I plan on seeing tomorrow with a few Plan B’s in mind in case logistics don’t allow me to follow my plan to a “T.” I didn’t even bother putting together a schedule because one day is easy enough to process, but if you’re going make sure you follow along and mark your calendars for the stuff I tell you to go see.

Mike Gordon is now on Twitter. Yes!

Poor Vineland.

Late last year, C3 announced they were going to stage a three-day music festival on a 550-acre farm in Vineland, N.J., on Aug. 8-10. A few months later, the festival was postponed till 2009. Now, C3 co-owner Charlie Jones says, Vineland is “dead.” [Turn It Up]

I don’t feel too confident in next year’s festival scene if we’re already seeing some festivals closing up shop before they even give it a fighting chance.

Crazy (Gnarls Barkley) – The Raconteurs [YouTube]

The Raconteurs just launched the “live” section of their website. Kudos yet again to whoever is running their online presence. This guy clearly knows what he’s doing.

They play Lollapalooza tomorrow and I hope to find my way over to their set to check it out, but that all depends on what kinda spot I’ll want to get for . I’m still bummed I miss their set at Lollapalooza 2006, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be catching them at Treasure Island this year. So maybe I’ll skip them tomorrow.

Andy Gadiel and I were chatting recently and he brought up the fact that he was thinking about bringing back the infamous Andy Gadiel’s Phish Page. Sure enough, yesterday he posted a “new” version of the page and threw up a Twitter that the page was back. I’m psyched to see it back; it immediately brought back a nostalgia moment where I remembered how many times I used to check this page in between classes in our university computer labs. I didn’t yet have a computer all to myself, so I spent time checking his page and building my Geocitites-hosted taper list all through our school computer labs. Good times.

Cheech & Chong announced today that they plan on returning to the road soon to bring their stoner comedy back to the masses before they die. They’re not really even trying to hide that logic, with Cheech quoted as saying, “We’ve gotten to the age where we don’t feel like fighting anymore because the end is a lot closer than the beginning.” Billboard got a little comfortable with the write-up…

Now that their feud is up in smoke, Cheech and Chong are high on plans to reunite for their first comedy tour in more than 25 years.

Do people actually go to see this sorta thing anymore? Can this still be funny at all?

The Secret Machines @ The Viper Room, Los Angeles 7/27/08

Reviews

Aaron Fortin just went and saw The Secret Machines in LA and gave us this review to post… Stepped into the venue kinda early. Local band IO ECHO opened. Caught the end of their set. The singer is a rocked out lady, and she was sure as hell rockin’ it. I stepped in the sidedoor [...]

STS9 & Umphrey’s McGee @ Charter One Pavilion, Chicago 7/19/08

Photo Galleries

Last Saturday was a full-on mind and body exercise, complete with bike-riding, dancing, photography, networking, and hours and hours of wonderful music. The climax of the day was definitely the dual-bill featuring a couple of leaders in the independent music world. STS9 and Umphrey’s McGee are as DIY as bands come, and that is independent [...]
