I've always thought the term "Jamband" was so broad as to be almost meaningless. I look at the lineup and see many different types of music represented, albeit many bands that get lumped into the "jamband" genre.

From MSMW (jazz) to DBT (kick-ass Southern Rock, and not a jam to be found) to Sharon Jones (old-school R&B), there's more than just head-bobbing and noodling here. Although, to be sure, more than their fair share.

Still, MJ isn't trying to compete with the big, broad festivals. It is a much smaller festival, and not trying to be all things to all people. I do think that Warren programs a good lineup of bands, and appreciate the fact that I can settle into one location for the day and hear all the music they have to offer.

Thanks for the comment, Stems.

Actually, stems: my bad on leaving my name on this post. I actually put it up for Paul as he didn't have time to load it himself.

I hear you, though -- diverse and jambands in the same sentence can be a bit of a misnomer.

While I always value your analysis, Justin, I'm curious as to where I could find that "diverse" Mountain Jam lineup you referenced. At least compared to the other premium festies, this one definitely looks like a throwback to the earlier era -- you remember, when Phish was still performing and cops and Rolling Stone ignored everything. I think you actually hit lineup on the head in your first sentence: "jam-packed."
