The first sign of spring rolled in last week, as Mountain Jam (May 30 – June 1) announced their initial lineup. Each year, Warren Haynes programs a great slate of bands, and this year he hit a number of my favorites.
I’ll start with Drive-by Truckers. I cannot wait to see the big rock show roar into Hunter.
Levon Helm Band is going to be rambling over from Woodstock. Levon Helm! That will surely be one of the highlights of the festival.
I’m looking very forward to seeing Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. I saw them last at Langerado last year and was very impressed with their classic, yet modern soulful music. Since then, their “100 Days” album has been in constant rotation.
As is tradition, Gov’t Mule will play two nights, two-sets each. Other highlights include Dark Star Orchestra, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Galactic, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, JJ Grey & Mofro and Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood.

Mule in the Rain, Saturday Night; Mountain Jam 2007
Mountain Jam is always a highlight of the summer. WDST puts on a great event. I can only hope that the weather cooperates this year. They deserve much better than they’ve gotten over the past few years.
