Have been a fan (though not huge) of Rush going back to Moving Pictures. Hadn't seen them live since about 1985 until two tours ago. My brother-in-law is a huge Rush fan and got me to go along without much prodding. The format for their tours now is no opening band and they play two sets lasting 2 1/2 to 3 hours. They tend to play at least one song from every album, so no matter when you were a fan you'll hear something that you know. They still have a big rock show with videos, lasers, flashpots, and last time, three working tumble dryers on stage for no apparent reason. Hey, if you're going to spend three hours on stage, you might as well get some laundry done! But they all still incredible musicians and the show was great. Set list doesn't change much night to night, if at all and there isn't a lot of jamming, though they do travel from the studio versions occassionally. Overall, a great rock show from extremely talented musicians.

I saw RUSH at the PNC Arts Center in NJ last night and overall, it was an awesome show (no warm-up band). I was a big fan of the band between 2112 and Signals, but really didn't listen to them very much after that. I've seen them perform 3 or 4 times in the (now distant) past. Last night, I was surprised at how few of (what I would consider to be) their classic tunes they performed. But it made me realize the extent of their repertoire. Although I was unfamiliar with many of the songs that they played, it wasn't like one of those shows where you sit there bored to tears in your seat while the band performs songs off their upcoming album. It was a RUSH show through and through and I loved it. Top tunes for me from last night were: Train to Bangkok, Vital Signs, Subdivisions, Tom Sawyer, Witch Hunt, Spirit of Radio, and a KICK ASS version YYZ that in my opinion was the highlight of the show.
