These guys play their hearts out every night and bring the good times. I agree that their "newer" stuff isn't as good as the material on "Shake hands..." or "51 Phantom", but "Electric Blue Watermelon" has some mean cuts and is a fine disk to get your post-winter boogie on. Lexington loves NMSA. I’ve seen NMAS 7 times, in varied venues. These guys play their hearts out every night and bring the good times.

I agree that their “newer” stuff isn’t as good as the material on “Shake hands…” or “51 Phantom”, but “Electric Blue Watermelon” has some mean cuts and is a fine disk to get your post-winter boogie on.

"World boogie" definitely suits their music quite a bit, but I've decided that they are at their best when they are re-imagining (see also: modernizing, bringing to larger public attention) the works of R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough.. their "own" material just doesn't stand up to the stuff they cribbed from R.L. and Jr... In that vein, 'Electric Blue Watermelon' and to some extent 'Polaris' fall flat in comparison to NMAS' early albums.. A must see/listen/love for any fans of "jam" bands out there, 'Shake Hands With Shorty' is a classic (filled with the choicest cuts from the Burnside canon). That said, they certainly can rock. I've had the pleasure of seeing them play live a bunch of times and every time is a treat...
