Hey folks. Once again, let me apologize for the site problems today. Our hosting provider had some sort of major meltdown relating to its power grid, so access to the site was inconsistent for a good portion of the day.

Guess you gotta have power to run these darn Internets!?!

Anyways, we hope that this is the last of these announcements, but I’m not going to jinx us second time!

Stay tuned for some new posts…

Well, at least they will be new to me!

Yep, that’s right folks, as Justin recently mentioned, I’ll be headin’ down to Florida for the festival extravaganza that is Langerado! And with just over a week until it begins, I’ve been starting to get some pre-show butterflies of excitement. One thing I’m especially exicted about is the possibility of checkin’ out a bunch of bands that I’ve never experienced in the live setting.

So, here’s a run-down and a musical sampling of a just a few of the bands I’m siked to see next week in Florida…

Let me apologize for the site being down this morning. Our hosting service had some electrical issues, but everything appears to be functioning properly now. That said, if you notice any site problems, do not hesitate to email us.

…Some pretty amazing timing with Justin being out of town and basically unreachable this week. Guess that’s just Murphy’s Law at work again. Hopefully, that’s the only problem we see.

We’ll have some new posts up shortly.

The recently re-united Police have created quite a stir in the concert world since they played the Grammys. They’ve recently sold out a bunch of the initial stadium dates they announced a couple weeks back, which included a headlining slot at Bonnaroo (a festival which has also been selling tickets at a feverish pace).

Today, they’ve added even more stops on their North American tour, and are expected to add additional dates in the future. The new dates are as follows:

6/2 @ Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton AL
6/6 @ Key Arena, Seattle WA
6/26 @ American Airlines Center, Dallas TX
7/03 @ Xcel Center, St. Paul MN
7/16 @ Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland OH
7/17 @ Palace of Auburn Hills, Detroit MI
7/19 @ Citizen’s Bank Park, Philadelphia PA
7/20 @ Hersheypark Stadium, Hershey PA
7/31 @ Rentschler Field, Hartford CT
11/08 @ Air Canada Centre, Toronto ON

The Police follow sellouts with more dates [LiveDaily]

The Police Tour site has more ticket info, including details on pre-sale (for fan club members) beginning as early as Wednesday, February 28th at 10 AM.

Full tour dates after the jump…

…everyone can acheive personal happiness. Or something like that.

Yesterday, NPR listeners were treated to a little soliloquoy by Mr. Coyne when he added his commentary for the NPR series of personal stories, “This, I Believe.” Coyne discussed his experience realizing ways to achieve personal happiness, stating:

I believe this is something all of us can do: Try to be happy within the context of the life we are actually living. Happiness is not a situation to be longed for or a convergence of lucky happenstance. Through the power of our own minds, we can help ourselves. This I believe.

Perhaps this isn’t surprising coming from a guy who just won two Grammys, but Coyne also explained how he was even able to find happiness during his 11 years working as a fry cook at Long John Silver’s (dude, 11 years? That’s a lot of popcorn shrimp!). There’s definitely something — dare I say — cute about Coyne’s tale of personal happiness that put a little smile on my face. While it certainly makes sense comin’ from a guy who often traverses large crowds in an over-sized gerbal ball, it kinda made my day.

The Flaming Lips recently won Grammys for Best Rock Instrumental Performance (for “The Wizard Turns On…the Giant Silver Flashlight and Puts on His Werewolf Moccasins”), and for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical (for At War With the Mystics, also given to Dave Fridmann).

4-11 Athens, GA @ Classic Center
4-12 Orlando, FL @ House of Blues
4-13 Pompano Beach, FL @ PB Amphitheater
4-14 St. Petersburg, FL @ Jannus Landing
4-17 Myrtle Beach, FL @ House of Blues

This band with the name nobody’s sure what to do with have recently been really grabbin’ my attention. Perhaps I’m just in a dancey/groovy mood this week, but the tracks I’ve been hearing from their forthcoming album, Myth Takes, are hot hot hot!

There’s a bit of the disco-punk vibe, similar way to say, LCD Soundsystem, and they’ll occasionally drop something more along the lines of the Talking Heads, yet updated nicely for the millenium. But there’s also something a little less tangible that just hits ya….hard, and makes your ass move.

You can listen to the entire album, Myth Takes, on the always generous BBC website. Let me just go ahead and recommend “Bend Over Beethoven” (for the jam-hungry kids) and “Break in Case of Anything” (for the Talking Heads vibe). And the title track ain’t too shabby either.

They also recently released a video for the first single, called “Heart of Hearts” which is equally groove-heavy. Check it:

!!! is currently on an extensive international tour hitting spots in Japan, Australia, and Europe, but they’ll be swingin’ back stateside for Coachella. If you have the means, I highly recommend it…

(updated below on 2/27/07)

So Bonnaroo quietly announced two more additions to their initial line-up that was leaked and subsequently confirmed a couple weeks back. The two new additions are:

The Roots
The Wild Magnolia Mardi Gras Indians

Kind of a weak announcement, which may be why we haven’t heard a ton of talk about it. Or perhaps that initial leaked line-up wasn’t supposed to be so long? Anyways, The Roots are kind of an obvious choice, and a solid addition (Gotta have the “hip hop jamband” don’t ya?). The Wild Magnolia Mardi Gras Indians is kind an odd addition compared to most other artisits. My understanding is that these guys do a kind of street-art performance of song and dance in during Mardi Gras and JazzFest (wikipedia’s got some background here).

Ticket info update:
According to Billboard today (2/27), tickets are now sold out at the first few levels, and are only available at the highest price point of $214.50 (although, as of 11:45 AM CT the ticket site had not made this adjustment, I confirmed it by attempting to buy a ticket).

So will it sell out soon? What are your thoughts on future artist additions? You think any headliners are still on the horizon?

Man, is it me or are these big festivals getting really pricey?

Been wondering about the Benevento-Russo Duo?

They had a rather huge 2006, dropping a stellar album (Play Pause Stop), doing a summer tour with Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon, hitting Lollapalooza, and wrapping things up with a solid fall tour. But we haven’t heard all that much about their 2007 plans…

Benevento Mini-Tour
Looks like Marco Benvento (the keyboards half of the Duo) has set-up a mini-run of shows in the Northeast in March with JFJO‘s badass bassist, Reed Mathis, and Mike Dillon, of Critters Buggin, on percussion. That should make for a pretty ridiculous jazzy experience…or, perhaps we’ll get some random “Duo-style” cover tunes? Either way, this should be an interesting combo. Also, it looks like Marco has plans for a solo release called “Marco Live at Tonic” slated for later in 2007.

A ‘Bustle in Your Hedgerow’
Even more exciting is the re-appearance of “Bustle in Your Hedgerow,” last seen and heard rockin’ out the “Led Zeppelin Experience” in a post-Lollapalooza haze. Once again, the Duo (Marco Benevento and Joe Russo), join forces with Scott Metzger (of Rana), and Dave Dreiwitz (the bassist of Ween) for several nights of Zeppelin craziness in Boulder at the Fox (2/28), Denver at the Bluebird (3/1), Chicago at the Abbey Pub (3/2), and a final St. Patty’s Day throw-down in Teaneck, NJ at Mexicali Blues (3/17). Silver Wrapper‘s got the deets on the Chicago show. Overall, this should be a rowdy-good time. Perhaps we’ll see ya in Chicago!?! (thanks to our commenter Nicholas for the correction!)

By the way, in case you missed it, the last time these guys got together, Brendan Bayliss joined them for a rockin’ evening, and some highlights of that evening made into our Live Music Blog Podcast #048, which was shortly followed the entire show just for shits and giggles.

but wait, there’s more…

Pitchfork Review
For some odd reason, our favorite indie rock journa-snobs at Pitchfork have finally gotten around to reviewing the Duo’s 2006 release, Play Pause Stop, and –gasp — they like it! In fact, they have given it a solid 7.6 rating. What?

Actually, I really like this review, as it not only gives a solid nod to one of our favorite albums of 2006, but brings up some themes we frequently discuss here on this blog. More like this please…
