Bonnaroo 2007 | Lineup Rumors

There are a few music festivals that stir up the rumor mill pretty hard each year, and Bonnaroo is definitely part of that group…

We haven’t been down to Bonnaroo since my ’04 Sun Poisoning Debacle, but that still doesn’t stop us from asking the internet the following questions…

tent cityWho’s going to headline? Who’s going to get the late-night spots? Who’d be perfect for a late-night spot that I’d like to see play? Who’s going to guest with who? What kind of bio-diesel fuel vehicles are going to show up? Who’s playing the comedy tent?

You can’t really blame the fans for this rampant pre-planning that ultimately goes nowhere; rumors are only rumors until they announce the official lineup. Given the fact that the officially lineup normally carries like 1,500 bands or something insane like that, it’s fairly easy to guess a couple music festival heavies that will surely end up on that list. The Wikipedia entry on Bonnaroo is normally our guide here: My Morning Jacket, Guster, Tea Leaf Green, Ryan Adams, Wilco, etc.

You have to assume that at least half of those bands will get added in the end, which could be partially due to the fact that the Wikipedia entry is already brimming with rumors that Superfly is most certainly aware of already. “Oh — they think is going to be there. Hmm…did we talk to his people yet?”

that tent bonnaroo 2004Or maybe, just maybe — they say “Oh…they think we’re booking Arcade Fire? Just to show them up, we’ll book The Decemberists instead…”

Who the hell knows, really. It’s all half-assed speculation at this point until that lineup actuallys gets posted.

One thing is certain, though — my inbox keeps filling up with the hopes and dreams of other fans that think one major headliner will surely turn heads when they’re announced as one of the big dogs on the bill: Pearl Jam. I’ve got it on fairly good authority that they’re going to be there, but for now, call it what it needs to be called — a rumor.

I’ll update the *for sure, bra*‘s as they come in…

I went to bonnaroo last year, i love the jam scene but i also have an open mind and would love to see tool at the roo. I think bonnaroo can diversify while still holding true to its jam roots. Just like cochella is at heart an indie festival but also have some heavier and really mellow names on the bill.

i heard santa claus is gonna be there too with all his elves, and this is totally just a rumor but i heard the 8 reindeer are getting back together just for bonnaroo this year, that would be effing amazin, an to make it even better the red sox win the world series again, that would complete the year for me

I can’t believe with all these bonheads noone has mentioned the funk scene ariving to bonnaroo.

I also think that Dr. John and Dumphunkstank was the best lineup out of the entire weekend. And lets’s not forget Lyrics Born, Common, and Blackalicous.

I would love to see Ivan Neville’s band again alnong with:

    X-ecutioners
    RJD2
    Allman Brothers
    A Marley (Damien Rocked)
    B.B. King
    Ben Folds
    The Roots
    Guerillaz
    Flaming Lips
    Tom Waits
    Umphrey’s Mcgee (K-ZOO!)
    Amos Lee
    Mike Doughty
    Wood Brothers
    Dr. John
    Les in any form
    The Police (Headlining)
    Phil Lesh (Head Lining)
    Gangstarr
    DJ Cut Chemist
    Steve Earl
    Joss Stone
    My Morning Jacket

That wish list could go on forever..but you can hope that 10% of it comes true.

    Peace see ya all there!

To “annoyed”: – that rumor about Tool was kind of started by Trey himself, and printed in Rolling Stone so, what’s stupid again? I’m sorry, did you say the discussion of Tool being a possibility is “stupid”? If you don’t like the thread, don’t take part in it.

Pearl Jam will be on their European tour throughout the month of June.

tool is one of my favorite bands of all time. however, they will probably not be playing at bonnaroo. unfortunately, a small portion of their fans like to engage in moshing when they have the opportunity; bonnaroo does not want any bands that would have moshing fans.

it is nothing to do with the merits of tool’s music.

can we just stop talking about tool now?

i’d also be very skeptical of the police playign at bonnaroo

i can’t imagine bonnaroo having a band that is reuniting to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their first single; bonnaroo typically stays away from something like that

Why wouldn’t the Police play? Stewart Copeland played last year with Oysterhead, a band that hadn’t played a show together since 2001. That is EXACTLY what Roo is about, facilitating amazing collaborations between artists who may not otherwise have come together.

    Wow…I’m getting hyped!
TOOL, The Roots, Wood Bros, Daft Punk, The Gorillaz…A dream made in heaven!
How bout’ some Thievery Corporation, Groundation, Gnarles Barkley and
    John Brown’s Body?
I think the Roo would do themselves well to mix it up a little more.
    Open up people!!!

anyone who says Tool as a possibility at Roo is a big ole tool themselves. They are a great band but come on, you are kidding yourselves thinking this. You must not have either seen Tool live before and/or ever even been to Bonnaroo before, otherwise you would know how crazy that sounds. I realize Bonnaroo is pretty diverse but jeez, its not that much! and mark who doesn’t think Bonnaroo would book the Police is delusional too. They booked Tom Petty last year, and all that was a greatest hits/fundraising tour much like the Police reunion will be. The only real question is what night will the Police play (I’m guessing Saturday) cause Sunday’s gotta be reserved for Phil!
