Wakarusa 2007 Dates Announced

Not to be confused with any other music festival with a slightly silly name, Wakarusa Music Festival has announced their dates for 2007.

We’re pleased to announce that Wakarusa 2007 will be taking place on June 7-10. Stay tuned to www.wakarusa.com for initial artist announcements and on-sale information.

I expect the artist lineup at Wakarusa to be very similar to last year’s fest: very jamband heavy. They’ve had plenty of success and positive feedback from the community on keeping the festival true to the jamband “Woodstock ’69″ sort of vibe, even if it brings out droves of quota-hungry police officers.

Bonnaroo on the other hand — I have no idea where they’ll take this year’s lineup. I’m definitely looking forward to it.

A music festival in Kansas? Brilliant idea. Anyone who goes to this and gets shaken down (which WILL happen again) kinda deserves it. Kansas is going backwards.

Well I’m someone who went last year and will NEVER go again. Hey KS and MO, if you don’t want my money, that’s fine with me.

A few thoughts. Ace I don’t think that these people will have the festival if the same problems are going to occur. The promoter specifically states that “If there are not significant assurances that similar procedures won’t materialize in the future, we will not host another Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival.” The fuzz is being held up to intense scrutiny here in the area so I really don’t think that they will try to pull the same shit again this year…way too much bad publicity for them.

And David I understand where you are coming from but it seems that you had more of a problem with airport security at KCI than anything else.

As for Kansas going backwards this last election showed that things are starting to tip the other way. The anti-evolution board of education was completely voted out of office. Democrats made key gains in numerous areas and even crazy old Phil Kline (a real wingnut of an Attorney General) was voted out of office.

Only time will tell if Wakarusa will survive but I have high hopes and I know a lot of people that are hoping that it survives too.

local – the KCI incident was the main thing that happened to me, but it wasn’t the only thing that happened (but yes, having airport security actively working to try to make me miss my flight because she didn’t like my gf’s choices in clothes sure doesn’t make me want to go back to that town again.)

There was a general attitude throughout the event that the people in the area would be happier if we weren’t there. Since there are many other musical options, I’ll go to places that treat me with respect. It’s basic customer service.

NO WAY i would go to this fest. no matter what the promoters say COPS WILL BE THERE AND WILL USE PROCEDURES/TACTICS FROM LAST YEAR. the promoters can control or dictate anything to the local law enforcement. Plus, cops could just agree to be cool like last year and go insane. FUCK WAKA

After the horror stories I heard last year, and knowing what I know about Kansas cops, you couldn’t pay me to attend this festival. Even if the lineup is great.

I ran in to no problems in ’06 and am assuming I’ll run into no problems again this year.

It is truly the best festival around, taking into account the artists, size, location, distance from airport, etc…

For those of you selling sheets of liquid in the parking lot, you may want to consider going somewhere else. For those going to listen to the music, I would highly recommend Wakarusa.

I guess ‘liquid’ isn’t in ‘sheet’ form – my apologies for misspeaking.
