UPDATE (1/22): Go here for the early lineup announcement…
The annual Coachella Music Festival in California is expanding for 2007 — the festival will now be three days. Also, it’ll be followed up by a two-day country music festival? Zuh?
Not a huge surprise that they’ve made the change. I mean, every major fest that’s every major fest needs to be three days. There’s just too much going on and too much planning to try and fit it all in…
If you remember, last year’s rumor mill went nuts on this festival lineup, so let’s all go nuts and expect the same thing this year.
Seriously, though — who the hell could have called that Madonna would be added to this bill? The indie kids surely brought the elbows on that one.
Drop some comments, people!
WHAT WAS THE BEST CONCERT YOU SAW IN 2006 — and WHY?!?!?
The end of the year is fast approaching and we all know what you’re thankful for, but I’m more curious about what your favorite concert was. Also, try to exclude festival sets or anything like that — that shit don’t count…
“Schreiber must continually ‘inject certain amounts of aesthetic uncertainty into the marketplace, by deliberately writing reviews which suggest that bad artists are good, or that good artists are bad.’ In that case, there’s only way to cancel out the Pitchfork Effect: Read a different Web site.” [Slate]
There’s always Live Music Blog, folks…

“After expanding this fall to the United States and Canada, the V Festival will visit Australia for the first time next spring. The event will be staged March 31 at Sydney’s Centennial Park and April 1 at the Avica Resort in the Gold Coast. Pixies and Gnarls Barkley will top-line the bills.” [Billboard]
I’m just not sure how realistic it is to expect that Gnarls Barkley can actually pull off the coveted headliner slot. In my eyes, there’s no way their costumes and “Crazy” are enough to really keep a bunch of drunk Aussies happy…
Fans of the site might not to be too aware but I’ve always been a huge fan of Bjork — that sexy little muffin of an Icelandic pop sensation turned vocal breakout solo artist. While I find her music to be a little too off-the-deep-end lately, it was always phenomenal and magnetic to me before that…
My ears definitely perked up when I heard that she was coming out of hiding to play the Sugarcubes 20th Anniversary Show in Iceland a few weeks back…
Here are a couple clips from the event, Pitchfork took photos, and as always, there’s some YouTubeage from the event, too…
While not much a fan in the past, I’ve been rockin’ out to the new album by The Shins for a couple weeks thanks to my super secret heady torrent connections — and I have to say that it’s quite good.
The boys in the band announced that they’re hitting up the West coast in a few weeks, so hopefully we see more dates come to fruition out here in the cold Midwest…
The Shins Late 2006 Tour Dates
12-07 Seattle, WA – Key Arena
12-08 San Francisco, CA – Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
12-09 La Jolla, CA – RIMAC Arena (UCSD)
12-13 Portland, OR – Crystal Ballroom

The best track on the new album is “Sea Legs” — without a doubt — but here’s a close second…
“Ski Tour/Basecamp Music Experience is debuting in 2007 as a brand new kind of festival for music and winter sport lovers. The festival kicks off January 11-15 in Sun Valley, Idaho and then stops in Breckenridge Colorado (Feb 1-4) , Aspen/Snowmass (Feb 22-25), and finally Squaw Valley, California March 8th-11th.
The participating bands at the Basecamp Music Experience include The Wailers, Swollen Members, DJ Logic, Elan, Michael Franti & Spearhead , Don Carlos, Kamphire Collective, Blackalicious, George Clinton, Donavon Frankenreiter, plus many many more.” [JamBase]
Sounds ambitious; should be interesting to see how it plays out…
