The Dreck and Droll Hall of Shame is a joke, always has been and always will be, run by a bunch of has-beens and wannabes. It is a bunch of self-absorbed coke-snorting, back slapping, mouth breathing morons who work for the record companies to boost sales and promote their personal favourites, not the best or most important groups. The last thing the Dreck and Droll Hall of Shame is about is celebrating good music.

If a particular band is influential and widely popular, they and their fans don’t need to be told. A REAL “Hall of Fame” would be based on who changed music the most and who influenced the most other groups. Link Wray is far more important than Eddie Van Halen and Ronnie Spector more important than Aretha Franklin, and I say that with reverence for both Van Halen’s guitar playing and Franklin’s singing. Most of my favourite groups are not in the farcical “hall of fame” despite being around more than 25 years, they never will be in, nor would they ever get into a “proper” hall of fame as I defined it. And I don’t give a hoot; I like what I like, you like what you like, that’s all that matters.

On top of that, define what is and what groups are “rock and roll”. If entrants were limited to those who played a strict and narrow interpretation “rock and roll”, you wouldn’t have more than fifty groups in the world eligible for such a “hall of fame”. Everybody is influenced by everything; nobody creates music in a vacuum. You either include all styles of music or only one: anything else is politics and personal bias.

The Dreck and Droll Hall of Shame isn’t worth talking about, never mind getting upset.

I’ve never had any complaints about who’s gotten inducted thus far. My only real complaint is about the order in which some have received their respective honors. For example, with all do respect to Percy Sledge, I’m surprised that he got in before the likes of the Ronettes and the Righteous Brothers. Rock and Roll is a strong and vital genre, with so many talented artists worthy of being inducted.

I agree with so many of the names listed above. The Moody Blues is one group who’s induction is so long overdue. I agree that Link Wray has also been painfully overlooked. Chicago, Genesis, KISS, among others, are all worthy. John Mellencamp will surely get in, as will Madonna , Mettalica and Guns ‘n’ Roses. Grand Funk Railroad really deserves inclusion, as well.

As for me, I’m currently championing STEPPENWOLF. John Kay’s band is so deserving of this high honor. The group’s gritty, tough-as-nails sound was a definite influence on the hard rock and metal of the 1970s and ’80s. “Heavy Metal Thunder,” indeed!

Every few years, the American Film Institute releases a Top 100 list about the best in film. As with these types of lists, they spark great debate. The point, I feel, is to get people discussing, analyzing and debating the art form. I think the Hall of Fames inductions, serve a similar purpose. We are all discussing and debating the merits, or lack of merit, of many of rock & roll’s greatest talents. Whenever and whereever rock & roll is the topic of discussion, it warms my heart and brings a smile to my face.

  • This is Bullcrap

These guys that make the decisions on who enters are acting like St.Peter at Heavens Gate. The fact is it’s a shame that fans in a fan driven industry do not have a say as to who should be immortalized. KISS, Yes, Rush, Thin Lizzy and on and on, have to be inducted for the RRHOF to mean anything.

Where the hell is Sid Bernstein?

Phil Spector is there! Chuck Berry is there!
Sid Vicious is there! The Stones are there!
The Rascals are there. THE BEATLES ARE THERE!!!

When is Sid’s time. Perhaps you’ll consider him posthumously!

    What an honor!

Amazing the Moody Blues have not been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, but rarely do progressive bands get legitimate consideration. The staggering success of this band, both in terms of albums and longevity is remarkable–LET ALONE the fact that it virtually CREATED a whole sub-division within the rock world. Those who vote for inductees haven’t the wherewithall to pay heed to the greatness of this band. Groups like the Moody blues, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Procol Harum, ELP and Mike Oldfield, however, will, in the end, have given rock both depth and viability when all is said and done.

If the Hall is going to continue to snub Chicago, at least induct their former lead guitarist Terry Kath. Even the late great Jimmy Hendrix recognized Kath as one of the best and most innovative in rock. His omission continues to be a travesty.
