Giveaway: Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood ‘Out Louder’

Happy Hump Day, folks!

In celebration of this momentous occasion, I’m giving away three copies of the new Medeski, Scofield, Martin & Wood album, Out Louder. I probably should have gotten this posted a little while back when it was still in preorder, but the disc is available for order through the Medeski, Martin & Wood online store now and that’s really all that matters…

msmw-outlouder.jpg“MEDESKI SCOFIELD MARTIN & WOOD OUT LOUDER It’s a match made not above nor below, but rather in some altogether hipper place: John Medeski + Billy Martin + Chris Wood + guitar guru John Scofield. On their new release OUT LOUDER, they make music not of this world, yet rooted in the earth tones of jazz, funk, and blues. Music from the heart, for the mind, and made to shake the earth, not to mention the body.

Yes, this music does come from a deep, hip, strange place, and Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood are ready to take it out there and everywhere.”

I’ll pick three folks at random from the comments. How sick is this album? How sick will the tour be? Discuss amongst yourselves…

Sweet! I’d love to check out ‘Out Louder’ out…especially as my only exposure to MMW so far has been thru Medeski’s work w/ the Campbell Brothers and the Word.

Awesome! I can’t wait to see them at the Vic.

  • Joel

Great album, from the tracks I’ve heard on satellite radio from some avant-garde jamband jazz geniuses. This album delivers some great interplay between the four musicians, and is an excellent showcase of each. Great followup to A Go Go.

The album and tour will be so sick, that fans will need to be quarantined, and the Feds will investigate claims of bio-terrorism.

Waiting for them to come to Asheville. I guess I’ll just have to listen to “A Go Go” again. Unless…

Also, if you haven’t already, check out a great band from Asheville — Toubab Krewe.

I’ve been all about this tour since its announcement. I’ll be there in Chicago.

The first time I saw MMW was back in ’98 at the Classic Center in Athens, GA. It was the Combustication tour, so they played with DJ Logic the whole show. Unfamiliar with their work at the time, I was blown away with the Bubblehouse mania of an encore. I think that tune works well to suck in fans. Now that I’m more familiar with their repetoire, I’m enticed by the more experimental nuances that they bring to their performances.

The 20001201 MMW show with Trey as a guest is a killer example of the trio with a guest guitarist. Trey isn’t all that inventive here, but it’s still cool because it’s Trey. I’m not knocking his performance here – it was all improv – but it shows how awesome MMW sounds with a creative guitarist in the mix. I expect to hear some wild rhythmic experimentation and the introduction of a new direction for the trio with Sco’s hands in the mix.

I hope they blow me away.

wooosh! i can’t wait to listen to this album!! A Go Go is a classic, and MMW w/ Scofield should be a treat to see live. I would love to see them live, but my days of hitting every show are over, maybe when my 2 year gets older!
I saw Scofield when he kinda sorta toured behind that reocrd with Medeski, Wood and Clyde Stubblefield.. great show in Boston!

Ugh, this just reminds me that I’m missing MMW w/ Maceo Parker followed by Phil/Trey/Medeski/Co. at Vegoose.

That said, I’ll need to check out a few of their first live dates before I decide on that Vic show. After TLG last Saturday I can’t wait for another chance to go to The Vic, that place is nice.

I was just listening to A Go Go yesterday, which is such a solid and tight album. And Sco has only gotten better in the years since. I agree w/ Brian, MMW really shines with that 4th guest spot. Just a month or so ago, MMW was in Seattle with the Wood Brothers, and Oliver Wood sat in for the latter half of the second set. It was some of the best MMW I’ve heard, and the crowd was eating it up. When MMW wanted to shine on their own, and Oliver left, the crowd threw a fit, more or less forcing them to bring him back on stage. It was excellent. I haven’t seen MMW w/ Sco in this spot, but their studio work is among my favorite MMW albums. It’s a shame that this project isn’t hitting the Northwest.
