The jam genre (like the indie genre) is washed out with pretension. Music Critics fail to realize that when they get lazy (and all of them do) they tend to uphold these pretenses. Umph's Mcgee, though I haven't seen them in years aside from 20 minutes of their Lolla set STILL to this day are a breed apart from their jam band counter parts. So are Disco Biscuits, so are MMJ, so is Bennevetto-Russo Duo. It's unfortunate that having the balls to jam out a bit will automatically write you off as trying to mimic the Dead, Phish or any other free-sprited, drug condoning, rock/anything goes music. The jam band genre (like the indie genre) has A LOT OF wide ranging qualities that make it harder and harder to lump them into a simple, general category. It's getting to the point where Jam and Indie (despite their best efforts) are becoming a new ploy for the corporate rock dicks to have thier way with us.

What an idiot. How can this guy be considered a credible music critic if he knows next to nothing about jam music? The whole reason for this festival is the enjoyment of live performances, which jambands champion more than almost any other music genre.
