Music Critics fail to realize that when they get lazy (and all of them do) they tend to uphold these pretenses. Umph's Mcgee, though I haven't seen them in years aside from 20 minutes of their Lolla set STILL to this day are a breed apart from their jam band counter parts. So are Disco Biscuits, so are MMJ, so is Bennevetto-Russo Duo. It's unfortunate that having the balls to jam out a bit will automatically write you off as trying to mimic the Dead, Phish or any other free-sprited, drug condoning, rock/anything goes music. The jam band genre (like the indie genre) has A LOT OF wide ranging qualities that make it harder and harder to lump them into a simple, general category. It's getting to the point where Jam and Indie (despite their best efforts) are becoming a new ploy for the corporate rock dicks to have thier way with us.
