June 2006

Update: WRONG! Q101 took this down and admitted a mistake.

is the “special guest” at Lollapalooza 2006 (playing opposite the Raconteurs). Man — that’ll be a hard decision for me, actually…

Confirmed on Q101.com. Not confirmed on Lollapalooza.com yet.

phishbrookdvd.jpgI’ve been following the Phish Live in Brooklyn DVD for quite a while and I’m entirely psyched to announce the follwoing:

LIVE MUSIC BLOG IS GIVING AWAY THREE (3) PHISH LIVE IN BROOKLYN PRIZE PACKAGES FEATURING THE CD AND DVD OF PHISH LIVE IN BROOKLYN AND A MAGNET FEATURING ARTWORK FROM THE SHOW.

A-w-e-s-o-m-e.

Over at Phish Dry Goods, they’re accepting pre-orders for the items right now and each order gets a bonus CD (read on for more info).

To enter your chance to win one of three prize packs, send an email to vibes@livemusicblog.com with the subject “BROOKLYN” and get your email to me by Tuesday, July 4. Three winners will be chosen at random.

STS9 from the Balcony

Back in February, I saw a fantastic STS9 show at the House of Blues with Toubab Krewe as the opener.

I still love this photo, and if you do, too, you can view the whole gallery here.

Have a good morning!

Right after Phish announces that they’re bringing their Live in Brooklyn DVD to the big screen the day before the release, they announce that Burlington is going to get the premier of the film the day before the rest of the nation gets the premier. Very cool.

Speaking of Phish…75% of the band has just been added to moe. down 7 — with an unusual arrangement sneaking its way into the lineup seemingly unannounced elsewhere. Page McConnell will be joined by Jon Fishman, Adam Zimmon, Bob O’Dea and Jared Slomoff for a new project that I know nothing about, and Mike Gordon and Ramble Dove will be adding their honky tonky love to the fest that’ll sure to make way too many fans hope for a reunion (again).

My Bonnaroo 2006 downloads page has been updated with a couple more sources from the Archive.

Michael Franti’s got the cover of the new Relix“HOW YOU FEELING?!?!?!?!?” better be the story title or Relix will never hear the end of it from this lowly blogger.

Word on the street (from a friend of a friend that plays poker with the guy) is that the original lineup of Big Black, one of Chicago’s most influential indie rock bands, will be reuniting and playing at the Touch & Go 25th Anniversary Party being held Sept. 8-10 right here in Chicago.

Is anyone planning on going to this? I’d love to see Shellac & Ted Leo — but I’m pretty sure the Big Black announcement could be pretty influential in who I’d want to see for the weekend…

There’s quite a long list of good music happening at the Taste of Chicago this year, and the events in bold are my emphasis on what you should hit.
