Live Music Blog Refresh

Welcome to the new Live Music Blog!

Before / After

/

I’ve slapped a fresh coat of paint on the design, certainly inspired by many — Dooce, John Zeratsky, brooklynvegan — and certainly inspired by my past two months at FeedBurner. The site is definitely feed-powered now, with feeds for main posts, comments, podcasts, and the newest addition ot the Live Music Blog family — Live Wire.

Why?

The old design got tired. ‘Nuff said.

Wire?

From time to time, I’ll be adding timely links to the sidebar that I think might interest some of the readers — probably one or two a day at most. Some stuff doesn’t deserve to be on the sidebar permanently and some stuff doesn’t require a whole lot of explanation, and those will all be in the wire. Hope you enjoy the selections.

Feedback

Let me know what you think of the new design in the comments. If you think it sucks, sorry but I simply cannot help you. I’m just warning you in advance.

Man you change templates like my grandma changes wigs. By my count this is the 4th major look you’ve had since last December when I tuned in. Anyways, well done, I like your style.

John: I feel the same way – definitely much cleaner now. Sometimes three columns on a blog becomes way too busy and that was part of my motivation to strip away a column and focus on the basics.

Kane: No way I’ve done that many changes…have I really? I should go back and highlight all the changes I’ve made in the past half year or so. I consider my periods as follows…

    1. Pre-ticket stub — the site sucked.

    2. Ticket stub 1.0 — the site still sucked.

    3. Ticket stub 2.5 beta (current) — the site looks better, but god save us from the “writing” (in quotes even!)

Well, you had what must have been 1.0 without the stub, which I believe was before I came around.

My line of thought goes like this…

2.0 was similar to what you had yesterday, except both sidebars on the right, then recently you switched to content in the middle and sidebars on either side. I’d call that 2.0 and 2.1 probably.

This would probably be 2.2 or 2.5 or 3.0, but I consider dropping a sidebar a reasonably big deal, and you made a number of other features and changes, so it’s prob 2.5 or 3.0 in my mind. I’ll leave the 2.5 option in there since it’s still the ticket-stub-esque theme.

BTW… I’ve been wanting something similar to what you’ve started with Live Wire… I’ll probably be doing something similar on my site over the summer. By that I mean a sticky-post-type-thing separate from the main content, not necessarily the same content as yours, but similar on the back-end/coding side of things.
