Lame

From Phish.net…

In an interview on an Atlanta radio station today, Trey (likely in Atlanta for studio work with a producer he’s teamed up with before) confirmed rumors that he, Mike, and the Benevento/Russo duo will tour together this summer. Though tickets and billing will likely portray some hierarchy among the bill’s acts, rumors (based on previous things Mike and Trey have said) describe the tour as some sort of interactive meld, with each of the 3 doing their own stuff, as well as some interaction among them.

Well, that’s all well and good considering that the Duo already confirmed this recently. But here’s the lamest kicker I think I’ve read all year…

Trey also mentioned that he “hopes to get Phish back together in a few years”, dispelling rumors of an October 2006 reunion but confirming common suspicions that this “breakup” is really a second hiatus.

I’m working on my “open letter to Trey Anastasio” post right now. Here’s a snippet…

“Dear Trey,
Why–oh, why!–do you continue to verbal diarrhea? Phish getting back together? Didn’t drugs like bring negativity around? Why are you calling it Phish? Aren’t you going to be a nostalgia act if you continue doing these stupid teasers? I’d rather you teased “Meatstick” acoustic in an interview than tell the world that you want to get Phish back together. Oh, and didn’t you learn anything from Billy Corgan’s crazy-ass announcement before he had all of his ducks in-a-row?”

I think it’s a good start.

Trey has turned into a sad shadow of his former self, and this comment is another in a long line that is insulting to anyone who walked miles and miles into Coventry to see the last “last” Phish show. That night I watched my favorite band self-destruct on stage before my very eyes. I don’t think I could put myself through it again.

But if it happened, would I be on the phone and online trying to get tickets? You bet I would…

Trey is longing for the days of yore.
And he has every right to do so. As long as the second hiatus is declared officially over with the announcement of a “European

What does anyone care that Trey lied? Is this a courtroom? What does he or anyone else owe anyone? Did he MAKE you follow Phish?
We don’t live in Russia people – just chill out

I think Duo + Gordon/Trey would be a great combination. I’ve been psyched about it ever since I heard about it from the sound guys about a month ago. 10kl baby.

    A couple things here…

First and foremost, yes, the Duo with Trey and Gordon is one killer possibility for great music. That much is a given, in my opinion…

Regarding the possibility that Phish would come back or not, I just think that it’s lame for Trey to try and continue to fuel the same fire that he used to get away with fueling. Not on my watch…

How many friggin’ interviews did he do proclaiming “it was the drugs and not the fact that I’m not into it anymore…” all coming the heels of a terrible album and a lackluster tour (I do understand that we’re talking about Trey and that it’s all relative regarding his performance or his album or whatever)…

It’s Trey trying to sell tickets if you ask me…

And we might as well live in Russia if Trey brings Phish back…this will not be good for their legacy and I’m not the only one that looks at it that way.

He can do whatever the hell he wants, but I’m not going to support his nostalgia tour (to quote his own words). Again.

So just curious, Justin, if Phish comes back on Halloween 2007, are you not attending?

I kinda feel like if you do end up going, you’re doing the same thing as Trey. If you don’t go, good for you sticking to your guns, but I personally feel like that’s cutting of your nose to spite your face.

Trey is a dude who has given us (well, some of us) so much through the years. If he wants to make flippy floppy and equivocate all year long, just tune him out. Nobody’s begging you to rip through his remarks like an Alan Greenspan transcript.

I love it when all you boys get your panties in a bunch about Trey. It’s so cute.

I don’t give a squat about Phish’s “legacy.” Right now, they’re basically a footnote anyway. If they come back together and make good music, I’m all in. If they stay split up and make good music with side projects, that’s cool too.
