did my own taxes this year for the first time. Turbo-tizzzax. worked like a charm sans the cost to live in NYC!!! damn “the man”.

I did it via Turbo Tax because I had a lot of weird stuff this year due to the M$ Class Action Lawsuit.

I did my gf’s taxes by hand on a 1040EZ form in like 15 minutes.

There are a bunch of free outdoor sets on friday and sat including Ump-ump and Bela Flec and tones. They are at Grand Central. I’ll be out for lunch on Fri for umph an sat for bela.

I’ve done my own every year since I was 17, kind of nice to be able to say that, actually. Now I’m going through tax law in my Accounting classes and it’s all sort of coming together.

Also, if you earn under a certain AGI you could file Federal AND State on HRBlock.com for free. I most definitely took advantage of this since my student income is minimal.

I’ve used TaxCut before though, it’s pretty easy. There’s a few benefits and downsides to that versus online software, but overall not enough for me to buy the software again.

I did my taxes with TurboTax and think I got it 99% there ;). Some of the stuff is confusing. I moved from one state to another, and moved from a job to owning my own business.

As an owner of a small business, trying to get established, money is vital right now. Even though I am probably not making much, every quarter I have to send the IRS a check for my “estimated taxes.” I wish everyone had to do the same, we would have had a tax revolt years ago.

I am still of the opinion that any college educated person should be able to do their own taxes. It is an embarrassment that our tax code is so messed up that people need to hire others to do their taxes.

That’s exactly why I made this the open thread of the day. As an accountant, I’m just trying to keep us all honest.

Good to hear that those Accounting classes are paying off, Kane. Don’t pay too much attention in there, though. They’re bound to change the tax laws by the time you get out. =]
