The Predictable Demise of 70 Volt Parade

The will perform two nights at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA, April 26 and 27, 2006. Tickets go on sale to the public at 10AM (EST) via Ticketmaster. The thing is, though, Is this TAB? 70VP? SerialPod?

It’s Trey Anastasio Band, which is theoretical good news for me. His TAB stuff was always closer to something I was interested, and by the time they finished and Trey went the 70 Volt Parade route, TAB was solid. Solid solid solid.

Trey seems insanely indecisive in his post Phish musical adventures, but my prediction is that he’s generally not feeling the same fulfillment that Phish gave him and he’s actively seeking it. 70 Volt Parade wasn’t doing it for him, so you know, he went with something more familiar.

I know it’s all hearsay and no one can ever peek inside that large, red-headed cranium of his, but I just get less and less thrilled when I hear “Trey” news. Anyone else have that going on right now?

    My whole enthusiasm for Phish dropped after the first couple tunes at Coventry. Technique gone (unless someone could kindly pass along some counter-examples).

    This is by no means a rational opinion, since the last show I saw Phish before then was in ’98. Everything else was listened to through tapes (limited exposure, at that).

    I’m glad I moved on from my Phish obsessions, as it opened my eyes up to at least half a dozen new bands.

    TAB would be sweet, the first time I saw Trey live was 6-6-2002 at UIC Pavilion, it was a musically life-changing show, as much as any concert can be. It set me on a good path at least.

    Who knows, maybe a lack of enthusiasm on his part in relation to 70VP and the upcoming Oysterhead reunion will lead him back to his funkadelicest side project yet (and my favorite of them all)

    It’s a band, Trey plays guitar, and he could not think up of yet another name for his outfit. Who cares? As long as the tunes are good …

    The one Trey band show I caught was in August 2001 at Great Woods. It was probably the best Phish-related gig I’d seen since 1997, but Oysterhead notwithstanding, I’ve had zero desire to see any non-Phish Trey since. Probably a combination of just growing older, and the fact that ‘it just ain’t the same’!

    What the hell are Russ Lawton and Tony Markellus doing these days that make them so damn unavailable?

    I think it should also be noted that April 26-27 are a Wednesday and Thursday in Atlanta, which is not far from New Orleans where they apparently hold some kind of annual jazz festival that just happens to start on April 28th. As the Sports Guy would say, “Warrants mentioning.”
