Now Playing: My New Favorite Band

Now, this is not something that I would normally do, but I’m going to immediately create a new category on the blog for a band that I just heard for the first time yesterday afternoon: Toubab Krewe.

I’m planning to hit up the STS9 tour that’s starting in a couple days and coming through Chicago, and I noticed that Toubab Krewe was listed as the opener for the Friday night Chicago show (not to mention a few other slots on the tour).

So, onward I go in the typical blogger research fashion: check out their website, check their MySpace, Google Blogsearch their name, etc.

It didn’t take me long to make this determination, but this band immediately deserves the attention that you can give it. This is some great sounding music to me and I’m fully psyched that this is one brand-new, up-and-coming band coming out of the fruitful-enough Asheville, NC music scene. I expect great things for this band during 2006…

Justin, check out the Jambands.com Best of 2005 section for Mike Gordon’s thoughts on Toubab Krewe. It is from a section of an interview I did with him and he chose them as his best new find of the year. (All shameless plugs, aside…)

Randy: I guess I missed that. I’ll have to check it out.

No worries about the shameless plug either…it usually isn’t shameless coming from you. =]

You’re a keeper friend, Justin. Thanks for that. Your blog just keeps getting better and better–2006 looks incredible. I still can’t say “Radiohead” and “Bonnaroo” in the same sentence but I’ll be there! I saw them on the “Kid A/Amnesiac” tour in the San Francisco Bay Area–Shoreline–and they are truly WAY out in front.

These guys are keepers. They have a sound all there own and are getting better at an exponential rate! To think that they formed just in the summer of 2004 at a wedding (of course they all had been serious musicians before then). I was there for that first show and have seen them at least once every few months since. They are definately getting tighter and stroger with each performance. Watch out at Bonnaroo this year – that’s when everything’s going to change.

Yeah, I heard of them by discovering your blog. So again, it was the best new blog I had discovered on my own in a while…

Thanks for spreading the word on these guys. I agree; there are definitely big things coming for them with a sound like that.
