October 2005

Well, I almost missed this one that came to my inbox but I figured it needed to be up there. I’m a fan of public radio. Support it.

WFUV Releases City Folk Live 8

New York, NY– Noncommercial New York City radio station WFUV (90.7 FM, wfuv.org) will release City Folk Live 8, a compilation CD of live performances recorded at the station, during its annual fall membership drive, October 29 to November 6. To coincide with this year’s “The Drive Comes Alive” theme, the station will feature cuts from City Folk Live 8 every hour throughout the week of October 31.

The track listing is very impressive and it looks as though this could get some great support for the radio station. Press release continued below.

Right now I’m listening to the Lotus show that I saw a week ago and viewing some great Vegoose photos. And, blogging of course.

IMG_2492.jpgOver on Bathtub Gin, there is a very long index page worth of shots straight from , with a couple really amazing photos of the Flaming Lips. They’ve got shots of some of the art on the festival grounds and other miscellaneous photos and it’s definitely worth viewing. Hopefully they’ll get some more up there actually. Good stuff.

At Coventry: A Phish Blog, there are a couple shots of the sights as well as a couple shots of the Flaming Lips here.

I’m not sure who this wook is, but he clearly takes home the first-annual Live Music Blog Costume of the Year Award for 2005. This is just brilliant, especially the side effects (click to enlarge):

The best part? Imagine if he bumped into Trey at the Hard Rock or the Mandalay…just picturing that potentially hilarious scene is nearly making me wet myself. Okay, that’s a lie, I actually did wet myself.

Kudos bar to you, Costumed Wook.

For those of you lucky enough to be heading to the Jam in the Dam in March next year — cough, Justin — make sure you stay an extra day. This, from the festival organizers:

The Black Crowes have just been announced to play the Paradiso on March 22, the day after Jam in the Dam ends. The Paradiso is a nice venue about five minutes walk from the Melkweg.

It just so happens that Chris Robinson is friends with the Umphrey’s McGee boys, so, coincidence? We think not. Never know what might happen on the ‘sit-ins’, which was a really fun part of last year’s show.

We also hope to announce another show at the Melkweg on March 18th, sometime very soon.

Sounds like a great time ahead overseas…

Vegoose Roundup

Reports are flooding in from all over the Internets like Lake Pontchartrain waters (too soon?), and there’s an overwhleming consensus here: Despite the ridiculous amount of money most people appear to have spent on this weekend, was a smashing success.

I received a three-word text message shortly after midnight on the East Coast last night that read “Trey with Panic.” At first I thought that should sufficiently piss off most of the South. But then I said to myself, “Man, this type of crossover must have been happening all weekend long…this musta been one helluva sick festival.” And it’s looking like that suspicion is dead-on-balls accurate.

Reports from the Sin City frontline are coming in very slowly, but if you missed any of Justin’s live blogging and constant posting this weekend, here’s a chance to catch up on what you missed from the festival of the year in Vegas:

There’s only one possible song we could post up here on this unofficial holiday. So everybody break out your zombie clothes and get ready to do that dance where you swing your arms from side to side. ‘Cause this is Thriller, thriller night.

From the LMB to you, Happy Halloween, everybody.

The start of this disc is where Trey welcomes a TV audience to Big Cypress via Peter Jennings’ ABC News coverage. The end of this disc was an unbelievably stunning, half-hour long Rock and Roll. I remember watching that coverage from my hotel room in Hawaii before we set out and went to our own Millennium celebration. Good stuff.
