This Labor Day weekend, if you’re not going to see Umphrey’s McGee at the Skyline Stage, you should check out a brand-new music festival that just crossed my desk. It’s Chicago-local for the time being, but I imagine if this first year goes well, this might be something that could get some more national attention.
Wonderjam Music and Arts Festival
Saturday, September 3, 2005
Time: 10am – Sundown
Location: Harlem Ave & Joliet Rd, Lyons, IL
Info: Live music, arts, games, nature…a musical party in the woods!
Bands: 5 live bands – music all day =)
Schedule
Noon – Sky Naked
1:15 – Dan Coyle
2:15 – Electric Medicine
3:30 – Brandon Bennett
4:30 – 10-b
We’d love to see any reviews come out of this festival, as we hope and wish that they’ve got their shit together unlike some other festivals.
If you’re in New York City today, you should check out the free CBGB benefit concert at Washington Square Park. It’s got a super name of sponsors, including Little Steven himself, so you know it’s legit. Seriously though, there are some great bands coming together to try and raise money to save CBGB from the fate that just might befall them yet.
It’s funny, because this plot is oddly similar to Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. You know what happens in the end? They break-dance and save their community center from certain destruction. I can only hope the fate of CBGB lies in the hands of all the break-dancin’, Boogaloo freaks at Washington Square Park.
Check out the website for additional info and last-minute updates. Also, Download.com is going to be offering a webcast of the event live and streaming video will be on their site until Sept. 30. Check out the webcast here (or go through the main page).
Bands: Blondie, Bouncing Souls, Institute (w/ Gavin Rossdale), Chesterfield Kings, the Charms, more…
Time: 3pm – 7pm
Price: FREE!

An important announcement from our friends at the Jam in the Dam:
After much feedback from the fans, we have come to the very difficult decision to consolidate the two weeks of Jam in the Dam. Please understand that this event is unlike any ever undertaken, and as such, presents new challenges, but also new opportunities for improvement.
After last year’s smashing success, and the camaraderie built up while there, splitting the shows and bands over two weeks turned out to be a less desirable situation for many folks. People that wanted to see both Umphrey’s McGee and the Disco Biscuits, were forced to choose, as they simply could not afford to stay away for ten days. The last thing we want to do was take a very special show, and detract from it in any way. This festival is here to stay, and whatever it takes to make it better, will be done.
What we plan to do:
The Eerste week show will now no longer take place. The Disco Biscuits will move to the Tweede week, and take the place of North Mississippi Allstars on the bill.
The bill for Jam in the Dam 2006, March 19-20-21, is now as follows:
Umphrey’s McGee
The Disco Biscuits
Sound Tribe Sector Nine
Benevento/Russo Duo

As someone who passed on Vegoose for strictly cost reasons, let’s hope this turns out to be the real thing:
Green Apple Music Festival
April 20-23, 2006
25 Shows
15 Venues
All shows in NYC, Final Show of the festival is the Jammy Awards at the Theatre at MSG.
Whoa, hold the phone, unless there are some serious prankster webmasters out there, this appears to be real deal. Check out the website here.
This festival has the potential for absolute greatness, right in my backyard. Make it happen, fellas.
So, obviously after this monstrous debacle this past weekend regarding the Shakedown Music Festival in Oregon, we would all expect a long explanation. A very long explanation.
I’m pleased to report that we finally do have that explanation that we were looking for.
Stylus Shows, the festival promoter, has given us an insightful (yet seriously biased) view of what really happened, and call me crazy, but I believe every single word that they wrote. I wouldn’t mind trying to get the Lowell MacGregor group’s opinion in this matter, but truth be told, I don’t know that anyone that would cancel a festival three hours before its scheduled beginning is anyone that we want to support. Go ahead and check out the whole letter from Stylus (attached at end of the post) or check the website for any updates.
(edit: I guess I don’t know who to fully support on this topic; check the comments here; apparently, this was the promoter’s fault)
My closing argument: a lot of fans were out a whole weekend worth of music due to stupid beaurocracy; that’s really all I need to say about that. And, if anyone feels like sticking it to the Lowell MacGregor group for screwing them out of a festival weekend, call them…

Sure, it’s insensitive, and sure, we made these kinds of jokes after the tsunami in Asia, but let us snicker to ourselves and enjoy a good laugh at other people’s expense, willya?
For today’s show, I’m featuring The Disco Biscuits. Why? For no reason whatsoever other than the fact that I haven’t already.
Got any ideas or suggestions for the next show? Drop us a line…

Here’s a guest review of Friday’s Green Day concert from my buddy EB:
Borrowing a friend’s New Year’s resolution, I vowed to see more live music in 2005.
The road since then has veered off into four directions: high and glorious (Langerado festival, March), locally stimulating (Hagus Maggagus, April; Crazy Fingers, Thursdays), comfortably routine (Trey Anastasio, August) and downright weird (Liz Phair, October. Don’t ask).
But it took Friday’s sold-out Green Day show in Sunrise, Fla., to make me realize how much Phish spoiled me.
