Not much here, except to say The Shins have a new website. It is easier to navigate, has more pics, and, of course, a sketch of a flying pirate ship with bat wings.
November 2004
The Jerry Garcia Autopsy [via Screenhead]
Jerry smoked Pall Malls – and the Ultra-Kind.
The Vines’ frontman was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, a crazy neurological disease that creates autistic-like symptoms. This explains that old Rolling Stone article about how all this guy can do is smoke pot in the corner and not talk or be social. [Billboard.com]
Fugazi will not be ending their hiatus anytime soon. This is quite disappointing. I had a great experience at the Fugazi show that I saw, and I was always hoping that I’d get to catch them again. The good thing is, they’re more than for certainly going to be coming to Chicago. [Billboard.com]
Modest Mouse has announced where they’ll be spending the rest of their 2004. I’m bummed that they won’t be playing New Year’s Eve shows; I love it when bands go all out and play on New Year’s Eve. They make a huge party out of it. [liveDaily]
Now playing: Perpetual Groove – Thriller
RatDog has announced that they’re coming back. Bob Weir must have gotten some good R&R to come back so quick. Let’s all wish him a good tour. I don’t know if I’ll catch one of these shows; I’m feeling that some of the members of The Dead are just played out now. [Jambands.com], [JamBase]
The New Deal have come back triumphantly, as evidenced in this great gallery on JamBase. I’ve still yet to see these guys, as they’ve only ventured to Chicago a couple times. I hope to catch them soon…
Also on JamBase, you can check out the listing of things to do for New Year’s Eve. Start making your plans if you have not done so already. There’s still tickets available for Umphrey’s McGee at the Riv. I’ll be the guy with the live music blog t-shirt on.
The annual Warren Haynes Christmas Jam is scheduled for Saturday, December 18 at the Asheville Civic Center Arena in Asheville, NC. There’s like six artists already signed on along with Gov’t Mule. Along with the artists, Chris Kuroda, long time Phish light guru, will be taking over for whoever it is that does it for Gov’t Mule. Kuroda will surely not disappoint. Read more. [Jambands.com]
…The Neville Brothers, Living Colour, Galactic, Col. Bruce Hampton and Little Feat are among the acts already confirmed for the all-star jam. Tickets will go on sale 10AM this Friday, November 26.
Thanks to everyone who voted for The Kite-Eating Tree, in MTV2′s Dew Circuit Breakout! They WON their semi-final bracket and will be heading to New York City next week. Be sure to watch them perform LIVE on MTV2, December 4th, at 6pm EST, then VOTE at mtv2.com. This is for $50K and other prizes!
U2log.com has the inside story on U2′s free guerilla-style concert yesterday in Brooklyn. The pictures look awesome, and I’m sure there’s many other places (including the normal, commercial media sites) that have pictures. [U2log.com]
The Big Wu has announced their New Year’s Eve plans. You know where I’ll be. Umphrey’s McGee baby! Glide Magazine just posted a gallery of Umphrey’s McGee at the Odeon in Cleveland, OH; check it out here.
And, in I-don’t-care-that-much-news, Paul McCartney will be headlining the Super Bowl halftime show. I hope I see those hot nipples!
Real quick note, The Shins just finished recording for Austin City Limits. The show airs on December 18th, on PBS, and also features The Flaming Lips! GET TO IT!
