the place: amoeba records, sunset blvd, hollywood, ca
the band: old crow medicine show
the time: seven pee em
the feeling: happy

these bluegrass/folk guys played a free show at this record store. it was so good. old folks, young folks, rockers, punks, hippies, a guy in steel toed work boots (that was me), we all had a good time! i watched the instruments breath the music. i couldn’t believe it. the ring-leader/violinist’s name is ketch. the banjo player’s name is critter. that explains a lot. they hadn’t been to california before. they were nervous. i don’t know why; they were so well versed in their craft, they made everyone else feel inadequate.

dave matthews band chooses worcester show for first live series release | glide magazine

has selected its Dec. 8, 1998 performance at the Centrum in Worcester, MA, as the first installment of its new live series.

i’ve only gone to see dave matthews band three times. the first time sucked, mostly in part to the idea that it was at the new world music center (now the tweeter center) in chicago. man does that place suck. that’s not the first time i’ve said that either.

perspectives on the stage with keller williams | jambands.com

for some reason, i swear i’ve read these same questions of keller williams. it seems that everyone thinks it’s a big deal that he’s a deadhead, even me.

with today’s heady technology, live music fans no longer need to trade tapes to get the best and most talked about concerts from their favorite jambands. personally, i’ve found that having a computer with dsl or cable internet access is the easiest way to get music on the internet. whether you choose to shop through itunes or napster, download audience recordings, or purchase soundboard recordings directly from the band, there are some steps that fans must take before they start.

register to vote, win bonnaroo tickets | jambands.com

as seen in many of my earlier blog posts, i’m psyched about the upcoming election. i think that i like voting. seriously, i don’t. i really don’t know why i just blogged that.

the newer group, old crow medicine show, is wonderful. hell, my old man went and saw these guys open up for gillian welch. blending appalachain string music, old time jug bands, and memphis blues, their single “wagon wheel” mad me cry. the banjo and fiddle sounds are deftly handled. you can see the video for “wagon wheel” on itunes music store. it is also getting play on mtv2, vh1country, and other fine television channels. their debut album came out in february 04. support this band; they are too good to be forced to do anything but play music.

i’m in the process of downloading some live franz ferdinand. i bought their debut, franz ferdinand, and i’ve been happy ever sense. if you have not bought this yet, please go buy it. it’s probably one of the best debut albums i’ve ever heard.

the funk of forty thousand years | pop life

this picture is awesomely scary. really, this does not have anything to do with live music. i’m sorry. it’s true. i can’t go on living a lie anymore. i worry that with concert ticket sales dragging, the interest in a blog about live music might not come together.
